Sweet video. I'm surprised they let a Lambo drive on Monza. I figured his tires would have been slashed in the pit lane.

That was cool, but after only having seen F1 and LeMans cars racing at Monza before, it looked painfully slow. Sounded great though.

Indeed. If ever you wanted to compare a street based car to an F1 car to understand just how truly fast a F1 car is, watch the video above and this one back to back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcUGC_GoVnc

You just can't compare the cornering speed of a modern formula car to anything else.

The other thing that's interesting about the track that you can't see from video is now bumpy the curbing is in the chicanes. Here's one I snapped last summer with a water bottle in it for perspective.

That's pretty damn cool. I'm always amazed at how well race cars blow right over curbing like this. Even with stiff spring rates and almost no ground clearance, they always seem to drive right over it as if it was flat ground. The curbing in some corners at the annual race in St. Pete FL is actually rows of those movable speed bumps you see in strip mall parking lots. It's the same stuff that SUVs creep over diagonally at 1/2 mph, yet racers plow over it at 100mph mid corner and you can't even see the car move.

why is it so bumpy? to prevent people gaining "an advantage"?

They had some of those too, notably in the first two chicanes after the front straight. You can see them (the black and yellow rubber things) on the inside of the right-hander. I didn't get a closeup shot, but they were just like you discribed them.

Found another for comparison. The Pagani Zonda R at Monza (although it's really more of a montage, still cool though)

It does look pretty extreme but I think it's directional and probably wouldn't be so bad to drive over at speed.

I liked the top gear with hamster trying to drive the F1 car. He had to drive faster than he could just to have the tires and brakes at a temperature where they worked. When they were talking about how the engine tolerances are so small that the block is locked solid until they start warming it up was like engineer porn.

Why? Are you maybe thinking of Imola (which is near Modena?)
