I had some guy with one just like yours, all black with some aftermarket wheels, try to play with me in santa monica traffic. I tore by him as his turbo spooled, but stopped shortly.

Was that you?

Wasn't me... I haven't been to the west side of LA in a couple years.

Mine has a BSR tune, too.

If you see a little Swedish flag next to the rear plate, then it's mine.

This car is growing on me a lot. An optioned-up model isn't good value, but a base six-speed with an option or two around $24k seems great. Sort of the Focus ST that we can't get. Would like to have an LSD, but not the end of the world for street driving.

Free scheduled maintenance for the first three years, I think.

I sort of got jibbed because the free maintenance started around mid-2008... I got my car in late-2007.

But I do my own oil change (Castro Edge + Purolator One) and maintenance, so it's no biggie.

Audi A3 2.0TFSI

 Re: »« »

Hello, late to the thread, but much to add. My previous commuter was a 2006 Audi A3 2.0T. It was modified. My gf still owns a stock A3, so I drive both cars a lot. And have a few impressions to share.

For most, this is overkill, but for anyone who is seriously considering a C30, this post may be helpful.

IMO the dual tailpipes make the rear hatch design work. Without the dual pipes, it'd be fugly.

Don't buy the car without the gear you want. Or you WILL regret it.
The gear below is exactly what I wanted, I wouldn't have changed a thing.

2008 C30 - Factory Specs:
Version2 (dynaudio, body kit, dynamic chasis)
Cosmic White
Climate Package(heated seats and other stuff)
Navigation with real time traffic
6 Speed Manual
BiXenon
Cruise Control
Trip
Sunroof
F+R Fogs
TPMS
18"s w/p-zeros
32,315 List, 27,995 Purchase Price.

K+N Air Filter installed, you can't believe how easy it is to access the filter. Two screws. And lift door.

In August 2008, there were no well equipped C30s left anywhere.
I took a train from Philly to NYC and then the Long Island Express to the dealer Hassel Volvo and drove the C30 home.
$32,315 List (impressive equipment), $27,995 Purchase Price (amazing deal).

I am a pretty serious car enthusiast, so I enjoy tinkering with whatever I have. But this car is ready to rock as is (this model, V2).
My other vehicle is a 1997 Wrangler Sahara 4.0L, 5 speed, A/C, hard top, soft top.

Some may feel the A3 and C30 shouldn't be compared because one is a 4 door. I feel they are both slightly upscale cars. Both turbo-charged hatchbacks with good gas mileage. So, here are some good points / bad points on the C30. And specifically when compared with my old car, the Audi A3, modified and unmodified. My girlfriend has a stock A3, so even still, I drive both cars often. You can fit a lot in the A3. With the C30 seats down in the rear, you can fit a lot. But you have to make sure it fits in the rear gate first;) The A3 drank a LOT of oil, even the stocker. Half to a full quart needed to be added per 3k miles. The C30 hasn't needed any oil at all.

The A3 has a nice motor. FSI is fantastic. And there is a lot of torque. MPGs are fantastic. DSG is amazing. The interior is well finished. But it's lacking something. The car looks ok. I don't think anyone feels the A3 is ugly. But that's because it looks like a bar of soap. It's very plain. You have to modify it a great deal, just to look slightly aggressive or stylish.

The C30 on the other hand. It's possible that anyone could hate the appearance. Some of my friends think it's oddly-cool looking. Of course it's the rear hatch that people are turned off with. I think the style is modern and fun. The C30's interior is more exciting than the A3, but not as refined. The seats are WAY more comfy in the Volvo. The dyn-audio (special option) is unbelieveable. Even SAT sounds amazing. SAT doesn't sound so good in the Audi. The T5 (turbo charged 5 cylinder motor) is dated IMO - but it's a lot of fun. Direct injection is all it really needs. That would be lethal. With a drop-in K+N, this motor sounds sooo nice. Just enough. I def recommend getting it. It take 3 minutes to install it. The (so called) CAI, isn't recommended on this car.

There is a good bit more power than the A3. MPGs are solid! 29-32 Highway - 32 with cruise control. 22-25 Mixed (remember I have a manual). Speaking of cruise, I prefer the cruise control on the C30, since it's on the steering wheel. I will add the C30 motor feels a lot stronger after about 2500 miles.

For people who like the smooth power and sound of the 3.2 - but also love the globs of torque, power band of the 2.0T... this may help... I've found this motor to be a perfect combination of the two! The 2.5L T 5 Cylinder has almost exactly the average HP of the two VW/Audi motors. The sound is a lot nicer and you get the best of all both worlds, nice power band and good mpg from having a turbo. But it's not a 4-banger, so it's a bit more smooth and has more grunt than the 2.0, and it doesn't feel like/sound a diesel at idle.

A3 2.0T
14.5 Gallon tank, 91 octane required.
200 HP @ 5100
207 TQ @ 1800

C30 t5
15.9 Gallon tank, 91 octane required.
227 HP @ 5000
236 TQ @ 1500
This thing would be a real sleeper with a flash.

The C30 itself is loads more fun than even my modified A3. The chasis is perfect. The body roll control is fantastic for a stocker. The Pzero tires are a great fit for the car. They help with the body roll of course, but they are a lb or two lighter than other tires, and they have amazing grip, even in the wet. You will scare your passengers in the twisties. The car keeps it's grip and stays amazingly flat! The HIDs are reasonably priced and very good, well worth it. The 6 speed manual takes some time to get used to (release of the clutch). Braking isn't a strong point on the C30 or the A3. A give a slight nod to the C30. Steering is too light in the A3, but it's electronically controlled, so you can dial in the proper setting. The C30 with the V2 model or r-design now, everything is nice - out of the box. I can't stress it enough. Get the right model, the body kit, the wheels, the chasis, it's all good stuff and well worth it.

The bad: I don't like the way the front seats move for rear passengers to enter, and the lever that controls them. I hate the key. It should be smaller or fold. My C30 loaner I received during some warranty work, it had the auto trans, I didn't like it at all. I'm sorry for any C30-automatic owners - you shoulda got the manual car;P

Car Insurance. I turned 34 in October 2008. I am paying $36 per month for my Jeep. And $65 for the C30. With average or above average coverage. State Farm. The Audi was about the same or a little less.

All in all. I love the C30. One reason = the exclusivity of the vehicle. It really turns heads. It's balanced platform and great tires makes the car a blast to drive. Design is love or hate, for me - love. I'm very glad I purchased it.

Love it or hate it? You be the judge... more pics/angles of the C30:

Yes it is. There are two buttons on the rear-right of the steering wheel, and 1 joystick. it's a great feature the controls. And it comes with a remote control for the other front seat driver!

I'm a fan of the unique design as well. Typical conservative, classy Volvo styling from the front, with a pinch of old school Volvo P-series in the back. I'm also a sucker for a T5 with a well-tuned exhaust.

a C30 R-Design will be strong in the running for a Rabbit replacement in a few years when they start coming in from leases.

I'm right on the fence right now. Need a replacement for the GTI and I went to test drive a C30. It was MUCH more fun than the S40 AWD 2.5T and the exhaust note was a lot "throat-ier" but I just keep reading that for the money the MKV GTI is a better choice. But how many MKV's do you see a day compared to how many C30's? Decisions!

Well the AWD and 3,518 lbs. over the FWD and 2,970 lbs told my butt dyno it was faster. The C30 has a pretty finely tune suspension also as mentioned above.

The C30 is lighter and has less rear overhang, so its handling characteristics are a bit different.

I am guessing the C30's suspensions are also a bit tighter.

The older pre-2008 S40 T5 also had less horsepower.

prolly b/c

1. the C30 owners like their cars, so they aren't trading them in.
2. maybe residuals aren't good yet, so again, not gonna see used cars yet.
3. the R32 isn't great on fuel, so dealers are forced to let them go on the cheap.
