Fun Sunday: Installed that Dry Carbon Wrap on a friend's roof/trunk. Suby and Miata content!« »

i've been planning to do the roof of my mini for a while now.
planned all week to do it today.
come today though, i'm somehow talked into doing a friends daily.

i'm not to up on my subaru speak, but its one of the pretty older ones.

midway through the day, my friend showed up in his 2 hour old miata.
the rear piece was rhinolined with some crap.
we sanded what hadn't chipped off and applied the wrap there.

some general pics of the vinyl.

It's style man. Style is everything. Style is not to be confused with class. A Mercedes Benz is class because it represents money; however, chilly dogs have absolutely no class but a great deal of style. And punk rock, new wave, whatever you have, reggae, rastafari, haircuts, what have you are all different kinds of styles. None of them, however, have any class. I got class.

yeah. i'll find another pic.

we worked on the trunk in the wrong way- wound up with a lot of material bunched in the center.
we just peeled it back stretched out the wrinkles and went at it again.

heres the pic of that:

Yeah.

But on a serious note- this cosmetic change probably adds about as much weight as a coat of paint. So it's all good (but not for me).

And I guess it does protect the paint underneath. So maybe carbon fiber wraps could be used in place of those clear bras.

On the miata, it probably saved weight.
we sanded off a PILE of this black wrinkle crap.

Like i said, if you're worried about any sort of functionality to back up the LOOK of carbon fiber... there is none.

some other sorts of functionality? sure, there are plenty.

I do wonder how well the adhesive will last as it being on the roof is now a giant heat conductor in the summer

if anything, it will make the removal harder, not the other way around.

I wouldn't say an STI deserves that kind of treatment.

I think this stuff is really neat for the interior of a car...

Outside? Meh, I guess it looks alright, I've never been a huge CF fan unless the entire vehicle consists of it for weight purposes it's great.

For cosmetic reasons, don't really get it.

My dash is done with it.
I simply prefer the look of it over the silver shiny-blind-you-with-reflections one that mini puts in there from the factory.

I agree that the exterior application is love/hate.
I personally like it. I can't expect everyone to like it, and i completely understand when they don't.

thanks for the compliments of the install.
its not as hard as it looks, anyone competent enough to get themselves dressed in the morning can be taught to install vinyl.

it takes a little bit of patience.
really, only a little bit. ask McGurk, i'm the most fidgety ADD person ever.
