I have an STI version 3 motor on the floor of my garage awaiting the same fait. Just waiting for a tranny that can hold it. I already have the adapter for the porsche 930 trans, it's just a super expensive transmission. I even have the pan and body ready to go... Should be a wicked car. Now I just need more time and money!

Did you take a look at what kind of tranny they used on this project?

I wish they had more video of the sound of this thing, I love the sound or a scooby, they sound like a speeder biker when cruising by...

(just assuming you know what I referencing)

They are using a Rhino Pro-drag trans which still runs upward of $2500.

I have a lead on a 930 tranny in North FL for the same price. If only I had $2500 at the moment. The 930 will take the STI power and some with no issues.

Yeah I still don't know how they fit a boxer 4 in the back of a beetle. I mean they did some fair amount of fabrication but not too extensive.

I think they used stock tranny mounts and moved the apron out some.

But from the research I have done. It you move the trans 1.5" towards the front of the car, you can put the engine under the stock decklid. Width wise it fits without issue. You do have to cut out the firewall and move it towards the front of the car.

Overall it isnt a terribly difficult looking swap. Just a lot of wiring and piping for the Radiator. And the exhaust looks to be a bit tricky.

This is one of my favorite STI builds and will shine the light on the subject for some people.

Repost....

Here's a pretty detailed thread on it. It's on the NASIOC forum also in the sap section.
