Time for more NA power- finally installing BIGGER CAMS!!!« »

After several years of contacting every possible cam manufacturer (including companies I've never heard of in foreign countries and shops that do regrinds)...it is finally coming true.

I've been writing back and forth with Schrick for about 2 years and what started off as them being completely not interested (claimed there would be no benefit or demand) eventually was able to talk them into potentially making a 268 exhaust to match the current 268 intake... (didn't happen)

....and by the time things were done there we now have Schrick 272/272!!

I should have the first set in my hands in the next few weeks and I should have them installed by the end of October!!

Discuss!!

Any low-end torque loss with these since they're bigger? This is awesome btw

Tuned in! Were they freebies to you since you were the pioneer / guinea pig?

BTW whats a cam install usually cost? or is it a do it yourself affair with the R? FWIW, I'm fairly mechanically inclined...

~$400 or 6hrs of your time and a handful of tools

I remember powerdubs saying our stock springs can take up to a 278 lift..

Unsure at this point. Our engines respond really well to cams so far. I know there is no loss with the 268/264. Even if there is a loss with these I wouldn't expect it to drop us below what a stock R makes (more than enough).

I *do* expect this to change the way the car sounds both at idle and the top end should scream.

The only thing I'm concerned with at this point is whether it will affect daily driveabliity..

No, lift will stay the same at 11mm.

I have no idea of how much clearance there is for any more lift on our stock reliefs. I've heard it is pretty close already.. so there would need to be piston work, new springs/retainers.. more lift would drive the cost up substantially.

I myself would love to have another 2mm lift.. but happy enough to have these.

Keeping my fingers crossed that these cams + a retune will finally put me in 12's at full weight.

And how long till QBN gets them?

I wish... I'm paying full price just like everyone else.

Usually I try to buy stuff like this 2nd hand for a substantial savings but not many people are going to buy these and the ones that do aren't going to be getting rid of them anytime soon. It is rare enough to find the Schrick 268/264 cams used.

I've heard of shops charging $600-$800. Its not hard if you take your time.. except for that lousy intake manifold bolt over the alt.

I'm going to get a custom tune.. at this point I'm at a combination of parts that Garrett never had in mind for his tune.

After adding the 2.25 cats and 2.75 catback my part throttle in a parking lot is funky.

wow! i had given up on getting decently aggressive cams.

i'm a giac fan... will their cam profile do, or is a custom tune in order (queue the revo fans...)

the only question is whether to do this now, or to just wait for the 2010 R...

If QBN gets his hands on a set of these, I'd bet Garrett will do a tune for them. (if even just for his own curiosity)

hey powerdubs, thanx for the invite!

i'm really interested to see what changes are going to be necessary to get the most out of these cams in the midrange/top.

do you run the OEM spark plugs?
