Im part of stlvw back in saint louis but wasnt sure if there is a scene out here or not. ive seen a ton of sick vw's cruising around so i figured id make a thread. if your out there post up.

there's a kc area group, kch2o. not too far from columbia. but not right next door either. a loose-knit organization. no membership fees or things of that nature. a good bunch of guys with interest in all european cars. thought i'd throw it out there if you're interested. check out kch2o.com.

I'm a kch2o member, but I recently moved to Columbia. I know there is one other kch2o guy that recently moved out here as well. I'd be up for a mini-gtg some time. I'm up on the (far) north end of town, and here's a pic of my car. I work from home, so I'm not likely to be spotted very often

Steelies are going on soon though

As of this coming weekend, I'll be located in Springfield, MO so I'm def. down for a nearby meet sometime. Unfortunately I haven't seen too many dubs in the Springfield/Branson area but I'll surely be keeping an eye out!

I'll be tearing into my wife's 12v mk4 to re-do a crack pipe (and take care of a couple other minor issues) if anyone is interested in helping, spectating, or just having a beer or 3. Not sure exactly when yet, but I have all parts - just need another jug of G12. She's having shoulder surgery soon and won't be driving for a while - I'll have lots of time

Hate to break it to you, but Springfield isn't close to Mid-Missouri - it's down towards the southwest corner of the state. Mid-Mo is more or less centered around Columbia / Jefferson City, and Springfield is about 3 hours from here. It's also ~3 hours from Kansas City, and probably close to that to Oklahoma City. I don't really know of anything in the Springfield area, unfortunately.

There are a couple pretty good options in Kansas City, depending on what you need. There's a guy in the local KC club that does a lot of work at his house for a number of the guys (and he's helped me a time or 12), but he can't do everything from home. As for Columbia / Jeff City - I'm fairly new here and don't really know either, lol. I know there are a couple fairly large VW specialist independent shops in town, but don't know much about either. I'd say you are probably on your own in Springfield though

As you can see from this thread, the Mid-MO area isn't any kind of organized. KCH2O (in Kansas City, lol) is more likely to have larger, more organized, and/or regular meets. There won't be much, if anything, until it warms up again in the spring though. I lived in the KC area the last 2 years and am a member on kch2o.com as well. I'd suggest you check it out, even though it'll be a bit of a cruise for you

My wife is into dubs, but I don't think she'd fall in the "serious" category you are describing. When she can, she'll help in the garage working on them and would go to most gtg's when we were in KC. We'd usually take both cars

As you can see by this thread (and the lack of other Columbia / Mizzou threads in general), the dubber population is considerably smaller than what you are used to on the east coast.

Hey,
I just moved to Springfield from Chicago and haven't found too many VW's or other Euros for that matter lol. I have my GLI and another friend I met out here has a modded 03 Jetta GLS. I did find a general import club that seems pretty cool, though, called Tru Form. Hit me up sometime and maybe we can try to get some Euros together out here.

PS I found a place that is good with VW's out here, too, called Vehicles Unlimited. Real nice guys and they seem to do good work for really good prices (compared to Chicago, at least!)

I am located in Lake STL for the moment, haven't seen any dubs out here. Makes me miss Denver even more... But anyhow, I don't have a drivable dub anyway. Have to rebuild a head for mine. I make it out to Columbia every couple of weeks to hang out with my cousin and would be down to shoot the **** with some dubbers if you guys decide to meet up out there.

For the Springfield fellows, you guys might try to get with the Arkansas guys, a lot of good people and old friends of mine down there. Oklahoma is a waist, and I'd stay away from there.

My BS took me 6, lol... Although there was a perfect storm of circumstances that kept it from being 5...

RE winter: I've only had 2 MO winters (in Kansas City) under my belt, and that's after coming from CA. Last year seemed pretty mild, although I guess the year before was exceptionally cold. We do get ice storms though, which can pretty well suck. I got back from a trip for work (to MD of all places, lol) and found my car encased in 1/2 inch of ice.

I don't find winter to be nearly as bad as I thought it'd be coming from CA. Personally I'd be more worried about spring and the hail storms. My advice - get a place with a garage you can park in! Not hard to do around here actually - lots of townhouses with 1 and 2 car garages.

My place looks just like this (nevermind the house burning in the background )

We've got an unofficial club out here but the website's been down a while because I've been busy with work. MoEuro.com.

Anyway we don't have too many get together's officially but we hang out often. Let me know if you want to stop over or hang out downtown once in a while. The VW scene is sparse but there's a good variety of makes between all of us. It's the Euro scene we try to keep together.

Like I said, send me a PM and maybe we can all meet up.
