Hello Everyone... I have a question concerning the adjustment of front toe on specific VW and Audi cars. These cars have suspension which requires the removal of the boot to expose the locking bolts which hold the tie rods in place. I am new to wheel alignment. I have done alot of different cars, but I got my first Passat in the shop the other day and I could not figure out how to get at those locking bolts. Do I need special tools? What is the best way to get at them to adjust toe? I know if you simply try to turn the tie rods they do not turn. Our alignment machine stated that the locking bolts have to be loosened, but does not show you how to do that. I just want to be ready for the next Audi or Passat that comes in for alignment. Can someone please describe this procedure for me, or direct me to online videos etc etc. Thanx very much.
Not sure of the year. I believe the one that came into the shop was a 2004. It is the ones with the tie rods way up in the wheel well. It is almost like you have to get to the steering rack from under the hood instead of under the car. I know in the alignment machine they say the locking screws are under the boots. I can feel them under the boots but just not sure how to access them and if I need any special tools. hope this helps....thanx
