Now, after spending too much time behind the wheel, I want a 911 SC. Preferably a 1983.Is this normal? the auto:

I want you to step away from the Photoshop and think about what you've done.

It's a blast to drive, especially with all the looks you get (plus it's in excellent shape). I'm teaching her how to drive stick in it. At least the transmission is synchronized. 45hp of fury!
I want you to step away from the Photoshop and think about what you've done.

Cool car. For a more air-cooled forum, go to http://www.thesamba.com . A lot of very cool stuff there, and they have a late-model (1968+) section. Nick

First Beetle?Feel free to ask questions if so, but there are certain rules. 1. Change the oil often, including cleaning the screen. 3000 miles is too long. Find some oil with zddp additive, as it's been removed from most modern oils because it clogs catalytic converters. Without it, you'll have serious cam wear issues. Briggs and Stratton oil still has it, so you could use 1 quart of that if you can't find something better. 2. Adjust valves every 3000 miles. No exceptions. Adjust the brakes while you're at it as they're manual, too. 3. Drive it like you're a little mad at it. Don't over-rev, as the crank isn't counterweighted and will wear the case if you constantly over-rev. If you stuff a nice counterweighted crank in there, balance everything and use dual valve springs, feel free to rev it much higher. With any old car, change the fluids, including and especially brake fluid. It holds water and should be completely changed every 2 years or so. This most likely has never been done. This is the main reason that hydraulic brake components fail.

If the Beetle can be modded to run 12's and still be a good streetable drive, I'd take it over a Porsche just for the embarrassment factor. Wonder how possible/affordable that would be.
Yeah, I'm one of those Beetle guys...

Replace the fuel lines, right now. Unless you want it to catch on fire. Also check the fuel filter placement and reference sites like http://www.thesamba.com

I suggest you throw a small amount of money into the suspension on that particular car. You'll have more fun in it than you ever thought possible in a Bug.

I'd just like to give this suggestion a big fat x2. The cloth covered lines conceal the true condition underneath. Don't forget the one up front under the tank. Bonus woody points if she's hot and knows how to work on it.

Counter weighted crank is a great mod if you crack the case. Allows the car to rev much quicker and higher.

Tail lamps didn't change - it's the bumpers. I've owned two 73 sports bugs blacked out chrome, Recaros, sport steering wheel, stripes. A yellow one and a marathon silver.

No, it is indeed a '73. You can tell because there are no bumper shocks with the very visible plastic covers you would easily see in this view especially as the bumpers would be farther out and the trailing edge of the bumper ends would have a rubber tip. The other tell on this car is the tower back front seats which were only on the 72 and 73 Super Beetles. This one would be pretty rare as there were not many 73s with a sunroof. My first car was a 1973 Super Beetle, it was red. A friend had a Blue Metallic Sport Bug, which I always coveted. Still would love to find one.

We have a '77 Super Beetle, and the front brakes are doing some strange things... Ours has drums in the front and back. Do I adjust the gear looking thing in the drums with a screw driver? I saw an illustration somewhere but I can't find it at the moment. I didn't want to start tinkering with the brakes on this thing. I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined, but I don't want to mess with brakes on a 30+ year old car that I don't know anything about.
