 2.0 8v engine discussion« »

Hello everyone!
i have a jetta MKIV 2001 with 2.0 8v engine.
Just wonder how fast RPM it can go on high way based on a long journey(>300miles) and without damaging the engine.
4000rpm?

if everything is properly in tune, 4000rpm shouldn't be a problem for cruising.

Thank you.
By the way, after long distance travel (>300mile), I feel the engine gets cleaner, it accelerates faster and make smaller noise under 3k rpm. Is it because all the material into the engine FLUSHED the dirties out of it?
Anyway I feel long distance travel is like a HEALTH CARE for the engine.

Does anyone have similar feeling?

After a long drive on the freeway your car feels faster mostly because you have been used to the slow acceleration in 4th and 5th gear with all 110hp working to overcome the aero drag. I know exactly what you are talking about and it is purely perception.

My car (1.8L digi II with a 9a tranny) runs at 3500rpm at 70 mph. I have not had any problems with it. Every now and then I drive for an hour at that speed. It is just annoying because it is loud.

well i also have corrado steelies with 165/45R15's on there. so my speedo is off by apporximately 7.9% so the tranny winds out faster.

the engine was freshly rebuilt by myself before installing it(clearences and cylinders were measured), so i know the engine is doing it's job, not to mention i have thule roof racks with fairing. the tranny i believe is a aug short ratio transmission. even with the factory 13's and appropriate tire size the rpms were at 6000-6400 at 115mph. i'm sure if i had an mk3 2.0l trans it would be a different story.

pic for clicks....
