One of the most vanilla cars according to TCL gets an LSD« »

I just noticed on the toyota website that the corolla is available with an LSD

Anyone have an experience driving one of these things? Does it noticeably make the handling better?

Intended for the XRS I would guess, not that that's really that special anymore, evidenced by the lack of an available manual with the XRS package.

Really?
I drove a 6-speed corolla hatch (TCL-gasm!) around some of the best roads in NZ, and it was pretty boring.
It could have been much worse, but it was still boring.

Yes Martha, you can get your new 2010 Toyota 4Runner with a 4-cylinder. As long as it's 2WD. And as long as it's with an old 4-speed automatic.

Yeah, XRS is 5AT only. The S trim is available with the 5MT, but it's only got the 1.8L, rather than the XRS's 2.4L.

Toyota offers the Corolla XRS with a 6-speed manual in at least some parts of the US. Not sure if that is available in all parts of the US, since Toyota often makes some combinations of options unavailable in some regions.

If the same applies in Canada, you might try Toyota's Canada web site with different postal codes to see if there are any regional differences in allowed combinations of options.

In the Corolla that I rented for a week, recently, the steering was so awful and frightening, I can't imagine anyone daring to press the go-pedal during a turn.

In some regions the XRS isn't even offered. I put in two different zip codes when building the corolla and one of them didn't show the XRS.

I was looking at the US site using zip code 98011 (I forget where that's from exactly).

Toyota Canada here in British Columbia apparently does offer a manual transmission option on the XRS. That is incredibly retarded to limit the regional availability of something like that.

I though a Quaife was expensive for an 02M. Just look at how much that factory option costs.

1350 would cover the cost of a diff, and most the install

usually, "accessories" are just that, accessories. You need to pay for the dealership to install. but who knows with something as in depth as an lsd install.

I'm implying that the option is absurdly expensive for what is actually involved in installing it on an assembly line with a transmission that hasn't been made yet.

You should see what lotus wants for an LSD ($1,790)

Hell, I want drop $1000 on a front diff and that's before dropping the transmission. i'd have loved to pay Subaru $1300 for a front LSD.

I wonder who those "most Americans" are. At least where I live, they may not buy the CC or Eos or Tiguan or Golf/GTI because they are unsure about their reliability and quality of service - but not because they find the brand boring - especially given the typically lighthearted commercials that everyone remembers having seen.
