 Diesel Etest« »

Hey guys,

I'm due for an etest in January and thought I would handle it early this year and not rush at last minute like previous years. Where can I get an etest for a diesel in the Mississauga area from a place that knows what they're doing? As far as I have read a diesel just needs a visual test/5 min idle. I went to CT as I thought it would be quick, but they wanted to put the sniffer in the exhaust. Needless to say I took my car and left.

They said the rules changed last year. When I told them it was just done as a visual in August, they said it changed in September. Is there any truth to this?

But anyway, is there a place that someone can recommend in Mississauga/Oakville?

Many thanks.

I thought this is the basic way the machine works, some sort of probe up your tail pipe? No need to reply with Colonoscopy jokes...

i have had several e tests for my diesels. Some have to put it on the rollers just to set up the machine, then its just an idle test to see if it smokes. Other times the guy either didnt even look at the car or just glanced at it running outside

there is no sniffer for diesels but they might put it on the rollers to input the vin and such

there is no probe... whoever stuck the probe in the diesel is an idiot.

you bring it in, look at it and hit "pass"...

def no probe for it. You shouldve let them put the probe in your car, wouldve cost them $3000 for the unit to be replaced and that tech/idiot wouldve lost his job quick!

its just a visual test for 5 minutes

can scan your car for codes with vagcom.
also doing brake servicing/replacements

Thanks guys. I called around to a few places and found one that does just the 5 min idle visual test and passed. I wasn't worried really, but the fact that they wanted to probe it made me worry that I would have a fail in the history of the car and would have to perform repairs. If anyone wants a place that knows how to do etests, I went to http://www.expresstest.ca/

It depends where you go, this year nobody asked me anything about the test, and the friendly guy behind the counter (good sign #1) said it was 'nothing then'.

Last time, I took it to a different CT, and they took forever to get it going - I looked in and they had it on the rollers, with the hood up, and by then they were laughing about the test procure - that I could see them reading from a book (we should be happy they could read). That or the EGR hose that was plugged with a pencil and hanging off the engine cover. It passed. The time before that they just idled it in the parking lot outside the window.

No probe as far as I know, but i have 'heard' that that will start soon, some year in the future.

It really just boils down to the tech working on the car if he knows what he is doing he will know the car is a diesel a test it accordingly
however most don't know what there doing and don't realize that cars are sometimes diesels not only trucks your best bet is to tell them the car is a diesel and ask them to make sure they test it as a diesel

Thats where I go everytime now for atleast 10 years now. Lowered car friendly and if too low just a 2 speed idle test.

take it to the dealer, its 35 bucks no matter where you. I watch the car idle for a few minutes outside, take it for a good boot to see if it smokes that hard on acceleration. bring it back. input the info into the machine and theres your pass. Reason for the quick test drive was because of a visit from the ministry with a car that would smoke like crazy on accel.
