 Group A - The silver age of rallying« »

I found this documentary from Youtube and thought it´s worth sharing.
It covers nearly a decade of group A rally from 1987 to 1996. It is narrated in Italian, but the footage speaks for itself.

Part 1/6

Part 2/6

Part 3/6

Part 4/6

Group A and Group N have always been interesting to me because of the huge variation in cars allowed.
WRC is boring now that it's just the Focus vs the C4
The Group A and N cars were so much more 'attainable'

For those looking for brilliant current rally stuff --- find dvds of the British Rally Championship...its great, FWD/AWD classes, and much more "attainable" cars as you mention.

The British Rally stages are freakin' great too! Its 10x better than WRC.

No. I definitely did not mean to say that stupid, overused line.

Anyway, just watched that whole thing over lunch. Great footage, though I did cringe a little when they played country music during the Olympus rally coverage (is that REALLY how the rest of the world sees us?).

And I agree with the above comment about the British rally championship being more entertaining than WRC. And the Irish tarmac rally championship is my favorite; talk about a motorsport that relates to driving "attainable" cars in a way you can (sort of) replicate out on deserted canyon roads. Awesome.

Ah yes, Patrick Snijers. That dude made his M3 seem like an extension of his body. I have never seen anybody else push an M3 so far in rallying.
