Yeah, please clarify. I wouldn't call Subaru 360 obscure since it was produced in great numbers.

Speaking of media, did anyone get any pics? Especially of the white Honda Accord CrossTour in heat 1. As we always say, nearly anything can be autocrossed. ;-)

I didn't think that VW actually made the Puma. IIRC, that was a small manufacturer building cars with VW parts.

And the Sube 360 van would be obscrue as it was less seen and less well known than the 360 car.

A nice obscure car i'd love to have is the Mazda Chantez;

FWIW they're very popular in Germany. I see them fairly often, along with the CC and Tiguan.

Chrysler Ghia L6.4

They only made 26 of 'em, they were coachbuilt in Italy, and they cost $13,500. Not sure if it qualifies as production, but it wasn't a one-off, either.

I don't think so, there's no one at McLaren who can weld that badly.

"Four cylinders ... fair enough. Air-cooled? Well, it's been done. Transversely-mounted engine? That's been done, too. Forced-induction air-cooling? Not all that new. Front-wheel drive? Not new. Four carbs on a four-banger? Standard procedure, for Honda. Dry-sump? Been popular in performance cars for donkey's years. Cross-over swing axles? Extremely rare!

But combine all these features in one super-sporty little coupe, and you've got what looks on paper to be the weirdest little motor car ever!"

Ah, that's what this is. I saw one parked in Brooklyn, but on the back it only said "Coupe", instead of a model number.

There was a VW thing at Vandenberg AFB in California when I was there, it had turned into the tech schools "Guam bomb." A new student would buy it, drive it around, and then sell it shortly before leaving for just about as much as he originally bought it for. I think six different guys owned it the whole time I was there,

The obscure car that broke me of domestics in general and general motors specifically, isn't obscure at all. At least not on the other side of the ocean.

Saturn Astra.

I was a bit of a Saturn fan for a while, and was hoping that GM was starting to think outside the box for once.

First there was the Beetle... Bus... Karman Ghia... then VW got antsy, because they knew they couldn't live on these forever...

First there was these...

(Beetles in new bodies)

Then there were these...

(little more innovation, still aircooled but bigger engine, 4 door, more modern)

I'm pretty sure this is obscure... I don't even think it made it to the US? it's the Lisa of the VW world The first try that was too expensive and too problematic.

(now we're cooking...VW bought Audi and stole their new water-cooled front-driver... too bad it flopped...)

Then we got these:

BINGO!
