Long story short, I've been looking for a new work truck. My dad is currently in Canada and went to an auction this morning and bought a Ford F250. I'm worried about taxes bringing it across the border as well as what is needed to get it smogged and registered in Cali. Anyone have any knowledge or experience with this?

Everyone I have talked to seems to think it's virtually impossible to register a Canadian vehicle in California.

      http://www.dmv.ca.gov for California specific issues.
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/imptop.htm for EPA (i.e. emissions) issues. There may be other issues like safety equipment to consider.
Here is a web site from an employer in California who apparently has had to deal with new employees moving from Canada and bringing vehicles:

Thanks for the info. Idiot is still going ahead with his plan and is supposedly driving down right now. Dunno what they plan on saying at the border since the truck won't be registered in his name or anything.
Stupid stubborn old people piss me off.
