Thread: My Rabbit TDI dyno: why bother with a VR6?

1. 04-08-2004 12:59 PM #1
So I dynod the Rabbit on the weekend...

specs: 2002 ALH TDI engine, 1982 Rabbit pickup
custom intercooler, tall-ratio 020 with 3.42 R&P
.205 injectors, ASV ECU, Rocketchip 3.1, 10mm injector pump

They didn't have a way to read the rpm off of the diesel,
so I had to do the calculations myself.

More detailed posthttps://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...rid/Swap forum

Why is it whenever I give someone a ride in the Rabbit,
they end up smiling real big, getting all giddy, and say that it
can't be a diesel?

They would if he could rev to that.. probably around 50whp/50lbft.
Sick torque though, time to get a tow bar and haul around stuff.

You did an awesome job with that swap. I remember following the updates with anticipation. Great to see your results. That is awesome, exactly what a truck should be. Now, build a high revving, hp monster and tow it around with your caddy!

very nice - something for those considering swapping from a diesel to a 16v or 8v ABA.

It's been about 5.3L/100km, 53MPG(imp), 44MPG(US) for the last few tanks. Warmer weather and summer diesel should make a bit of a difference.
Of course, the mileage all depends on how far you push the throttle.

Torque steer hasn't been all that bad. The tranny has the Peloquin 80% limited slip, which seems to help a bit. The scary part is hitting a patch of ice or sand under full throttle at speed and having one wheel start spinning.
The suspension and brakes aren't setup yet, so most of my spirited driving has been straight line.
No quarter mile, 0-60, or 60-90 times as of yet.
The calculators on the web would suggest an ET in the high 14s with a trap of 92 for the quarter. 'Course, I'd be at the top end of 4th gear by then.

Excellent job! That is not a swap for the faint of heart. Last time I checked the fastest TDI in the US was 15.29 @ 87.

Damn ............
Maybe I should scrap my 1.9TD engine projet and get a TDI block instead.
Oh wait, I'll be able to do that

Oddly enough, this beast is my daily driver. That's what it was designed for. Heated seats, reasonable stereo. 40,000 kms and counting.
I'm not shooting to be the big dog, though I think I may have the highest dyno numbers for the ASV-RC3.1/.205/10mm combination.
'Course, that's just today. I'm sure the bug will bite me.
For the time being the mantra is basically " I will not blow the tranny, I will not blow the tranny, I will not blow the tranny".

Put in an 11mm pump and you just might be the meanest dog in town! TDIs rock. I love mine, all 49 mpgs worth! And the performance available for the TDI is getting better all the time. I wonder what the gas guys pay at the pump, lol!
