I have been looking at a 2000 BMW M Coupe for the a few months and it has been the car that I've been dead on getting as my next ride. Today a co-worker comes into my office and tells me a friend from his previous place of employment is selling a mint 2000 Porsche Boxster for $25k or best offer.
Both cars are similar in price, which would you take?

Tough choice, since both cars rock... the M is definitely unique, and awesome in it's own respect. But I voted for the Porsche because, well, it's a Porsche, plus the fact that I have a deep love for roadsters... Plus I wouldn't want Obin to beat me up

M Coupe has always been one of my favorites and the one I was lucky enough to drive handled like it was on rails.

Boxster by a hair... I for one am just in need of a babe-mobile. If it was a Boxster S, I would have taken little consideration into account, but I do love the M Coupe.

My friend's brother noticed that the M Coupe uses the same ECU as the M3 (or he read it somewhere), so he wired the sport mode to his M Coupe.
Difference is noticible, and according to him, its how the M Coupe should've been.

Automatic M coupe?

Anyway, why are you guys saying the Boxster is common and the M Coupe is rare? I see many more M Coupes than Boxsters. I'd definately go with the Boxster. It looks better and is mid engined. I don't care if it's a Porsche, a Subaru, a Ford.. Whatever. And it dosen't look like a shoe.

Manual.
M Coupe is very hard to come by, even the Z Coupe. If you're talking about Z3, that's different. M roadster is somewhat rare. Northeast wise, Boxster is everywhere.

come to kansas city and drive around for a year or so. you'll be lucky to see a single M coupe.
therefore, i voted M coupe.

Damn I didn't expect so much love for the Coupe, it's absolutely stomping the Boxster.
For the record, I voted M Coupe as well.

M Coupe. It's the BMW for enthusiasts, whereas the Boxter is the P-car for... well, non-enthusiasts. To be nice.

If it was an S, I'd say go for the Boxster. Since its just the plain-jane model, I vote the M Coupe.

the M coupe is cool, but i'd rather have the Boxster. after seeing how hilarious any BMW parts for the "M" cars are priced, it would make the Boxster ownership look like a bargain.

I'm torn. I'd have to drive them both to know for sure. Both are awesome cars.
As far as getting girls, the Boxster wins hands down. I have never met a girl who liked the looks of the ol' clown-shoe... not that it would stop me from buying one.

For my money, it would have to be the Porsche. Either car would be great, but the fun factor of the convertible top on the Porsche makes the difference for me.

As much as I love Porsches, I'd take an M Coupe for the fixed roof. I'm a hard top kind of guy. Other people prefer convertibles. That's really what it all boils down to. Both cars can be had for great prices.
Waiting for the Boxster Coupe myself

My wife won't shutup about me getting me to buy one, I guess I'm just lucky.

No question about it - M Coupe all the way.

I love the look of the M coupe, but my wife says it looks like an AMC Pacer. Both of us like the Boxster, and my wife has said that she would like a convertible. I have even started dropping subtle hints, like when we see one on the street I'll say "Wow, that looks great in that colour" Just setting the stage.

Well, I guess the clincher would be if it's a Boxster S. If it's an S, then unequivocally the Boxster. If not, then still the Boxster, but by a slim margin. Of course, this is all living vicariously through you, so my vote for the Boxster is also counting on the fact that it will get you more tail.

M Coupe looks like a male reproductive organ more than a clown shoe. I don't care how well it performs.
Boxter I don't dig so much, "Porsche for non-enthusiasts" seems to sum it up.
How about S2K?
Ehhh, buy the Boxter, fershure.
