I'll be bringing over my Harman Kardon speaker, and I'm hoping that the in-wall wiring checks out, since I had to have them redo it (they got the blueprints backwards, since it was a mirrored layout). Its only a 5.1 setup, but I may later add some side channels in the ceiling (since there is no wall on one side).

I'll just keep browsing to keep the ideas flowing until then.
How did they put 5.1 system mirrored backwards? Only the sub placement should have been effected.

I opened our right rough-in to see how they handled the wiring in the wall and the speaker wire is shredded through the casing. There is only about 3” of usable wire. Thankfully I randomly chose that one to look at or I wouldn’t have known until I went to install the 5.1 system, which could be a year or more down the road...

We have our 60-day walkthrough in a few weeks so we’ll see what the builder is willing to do about it.

They also didn’t label the wires where they all come together at the receiver end.

Front to back. They ended up putting the HDMI and center, along with the patch panel on the wrong wall. Was supposed to be on the exterior wall, and they placed it on the interior wall (end unit of townhouse). It should be fixed now.

D'oh! Did your builder not do a pre-drywall?

Do you mind me asking where in VA you built?

We did, but I didn't catch it at the time because I also forgot the mirrored plan (had some other life event on my mind at the time, and everything looks so different before drywall). But he wasn't mad, it was a subcontractor that was tasked with the low-voltage wiring, so he made them fix it.

This is being built in Fredericksburg.

Oh, our builder (Stanley Martin) uses Franklin Electric for the electrical out of Fredericksburg. Their child company, SmartCom, did our low-voltage. They seemed like good guys, willing to change stuff up for us.

I do have a question towards my upcoming setup. Has anyone use a dynamic LED background lighting kit? I was considering one, but wasn't sure if it was useful or just distracting. I realize I would have to continue using an external source for video, as I don't think any can pick up internal smart app shows, but that doesn't phase me (outside of getting a new 4K Roku)

Edit: I guess they make some with a camera for smart apps, but I wonder what the lag is like

I haven’t explored it. We’d likely go with a hue kit.

The setup for now. (I need to get more lights in there. The builder didn't put in ceiling LEDs in that room for some reason)

Thinking of ditching my Yamaha receiver and surround speakers for a good quality sound bar and wireless sub. Anyone have any experience with that or thoughts?

I have a dynamic LED backlighting kit, I like it a lot and it doesn't distract me or my wife. Definitely draws interest when people come over. It can be set to a single color or to slowly change through all colors or flash between all colors.

The one I got was called Emotionlite LED on Amazon. Said it's for 32-60 inch TV but it didn't go all the way around the perimeter of my 55" the way I wanted it to so I had to get two and link them. Don't mind the cutoff picture, I was taking a pic of just the stand at the time

Changed from these components to in the wall JBL components and a new receiver by Onkyo.

Wow I forgot all about this stuff.

This whole craze totally went out like aftermarket car audio.

Many consumers have moved on to sound bars, because they are easier.

But there is no comparison between a sound bar and even a midrange 5.1 setup. Move up to a 9.1 or 9.2 Atmos setup and prepare to be amazed. (We have both a decent soundbar with small sub and wireless surround speakers and a 9.1 setup documented above. The experience is a world apart.)

Speaking of placement, are you goign to be relocating that tall cabinet? Its really going to block the sound coming out of the left speaker.... Oh and I would move the sub closer to a side wall too.

Yeah, I have to get more storage in order to relocate the tall cabinet.
I have DVD's everywhere in the room.

If that center channel is the center of the room, the TV needs to be centered to that as well as the cabinet below.
