I think you made a really nice camera look like a $20 NYC street knockoff
Gentlemen, you had my curiosity. But now you have my attention.

and that's a bad thing? I wish i could make my 5d look cheap so I could feel safer with it and people wouldn't want to steal it. I like it, but only for that reason. Its ugly, BUT WITH A PURPOSE!

Don't take it the wrong way - but as long as it takes the same quality of picture, who really cares what it looks like? I keep getting wild hairs to buy a cheap D50 and powercoat it pink. Just cause.

Pretty much- hope you plan on keeping that thing for years to come until it dies (and Canons last a long time). You just created a Black Market special for yourself. Interesting idea nonetheless though...

you can. it super easy to make a 5d look cheap. cover it all with black gaffers tape. i do that to all my cameras. its much less conspicuous and usually garners much less attention. i tape over all the markings on my lenses and lens caps as well.

I do the same. The worst is the strap camera makers provide. My D200 strap not only had a giant Nikon logo on it, but it said "D200" on it as well. One of the first things I did was take off the logos.
I prefer tape to just removing the logos in case I want to resell the item. Most people still prefer the markings. Of course, people who know cameras will still know what you have, but most people won't.

I just did it to mine but w/ duct tape, I even did the red line going around the lens. Nothing can hide the fact that i have a huge lens+hood. No tape will cover that up, but it does look more subtle.

Hm, it's hard to tell from the picture, but props for having the balls to do that. I have a Canon S500 and the faceplate is all scratched from use. I'm interested in seeing what people have done to refurbish their cameras. Any ideas? I'm afraid paint would just chip off and look worse.

More power to ya but Cracky McCrackhead doesn't care about that. Regardless of logos and model numbers he's gonna steal that camera and sell it for $25 so he can hook up with a little lunchtime pick-me-up.
No one other than a very select few (i.e., 0.001%) of people you meet on the street will know what the red ring on the lens means. Any photographer with a little experience will recognize what you've got even if they can't pick the specific model.
I worry more about my Elan7E. I know it's basically now a disposable body (in terms of value) but to anyone else it looks like a DSLR.

ummm, who gives a $hit what your camera looks like as long as it takes good photos?

i put duct tape over my lense in spots because i wanted to block out light

I've never felt worried I was gonna get my stuff jacked. Maybe its because I'm young...or because I'm fairly big...? I dunno. I just keep my equipment close by or on me when I go out. And I'm usually with a few other people if I'm photographing them.

Yea i dont like having a big camera thats got logos everywhere. When my school lones me the d70 which i use for projects etc (i dont like using my film minolta 8000si) its very ackward when you have a flashy camera. I could not care how good or bad it looks. If it takes great pictures thats all that matters
