Now that the holidays are winding down, I'm done with school, and the snow is melting (3 feet in western Washington is very uncommon), its time to get working on the rocco. I've got a laundry list of things to change and little tricks to try this season.
a few things on the list include:
adding some bars to stiffen the chassis
adjustable coilovers replacing cut down stock springs
full tuned exhaust system with an expansion chamber
addition of an oil cooler
new dash

With only the door skin off before whipping out any power tools.

After removing the dash, windshield, seat, and ps door bars.

Under hood shot for anyone curious.

Picked up a Volvo oil cooler set-up at the junkyard a few days back. Finally had some time to clean all the grime off it.

Yup its free. Its extremely easy to set up and use. The only downside is you don't get a nice clean .com address.

Got a little more work done. Added some additional bars to the cage to stiffen things up.

You can also see my attempt to keep the center of gravity lower by dropping the battery box through the floor about 9 inches.
Next project will be making the new header.

Discovered I haven't updated this for nearly a month, been working on too many projects other than the scirocco. Still haven't built the header which will take a solid chunk of time, hopefully soon though. I've melted some lead and almost have an expansion chamber.

Also the view through the firewall where the header will pass. Need to re-arrange the brake lines to get some clearance for the hot exhaust pipe.

Haven't taken any new pictures but there has been some progress. Last Saturday my buddy Chris helped out by stripping all the old stickers off the car while I was finishing up the crankcase evac system. We then dropped the motor and called it a day.
With the motor out, I removed the pan and did some inspecting just to make sure everything was looking good though it only has 2 races on it. I welded a baffle in the oil pan to help eliminate any slosh while making left handers all night. I also stuck on one of the stock ABA windage trays I had laying around, maybe good for 1 hp...but better than nothing I guess. Its now all buttoned up and ready to put back in and hopefully fire up this weekend.

Little sample of the winter 2012 rebuild. Wrecked it bad around mid-season, and after being too disgusted to look at it for a few months, finally dove in head first and fixed it right. Its starting to come together. Can post more pics by request.
