Thread: Where can I find these seat covers? (mk2 japanese content)

    1. 07-15-2009 11:11 AM #1
These seats are out of my 1990 golf 4dr GTI 16v, imported from Japan.
Anywhere I can find these covers/fabric?
      Thank you.

Standard UK Mk2 GTi seats. That isn't a Japanese Mk2, it's LHD and Japan has RHD.
I have the same pattern in red instead of yellow. I might be able to hook you up if you ask real nicely ;-)

      Stealership?
We had those in Europe too so should be available from somewhere.

The car was built in Germany, sent to Japan, and sold. Hence the LHD.
UK mk2 GTI seats, I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

Would anyone in the UK be able to ship me one? What do they cost? Thank you very much. I really need the driver side.

Go onto the UK Ebay, those seats pop up quite regularly. Im sure if you asked with the seller they might be able to post.

They sold RHD cars built in Germany. That was imported to Japan from somewhere elese probably before being imported here.

      Not necessarily.
I know of a LHD BMW 5 series that went from Germany to Japan and then Japan to Canada.
Most beautiful car I've ever seen.

Was it imported or sold new in Japan?
Some cars they won't bother converting... they never bothered to make a RHD Rallye IIRC. Too much cost to convert.
Japan is an odd country for VWs because they largely got a lot of their own kit, but some was shared with other countries too (they got a lot of the US engines for emissions reasons for example). There isn't any real way to tell which market a car was destined for, sadly (unless it's the US, then the VIN tells all). You have to look for that special component or combination of options that tells you.

i have a japanese import golf 4 door too. actually two of them. in the past most european cars were imported to japan through a company called 'yanase'.
look on the rad support or drivers side door jamb for thier sticker it might still be there.
bad shot of a faded and torn rad support sticker on my parts car:

i notice you have the front power/rear manual window set up too.
