    Thread: Inline radiator hose drain?

    1. 09-16-2009 11:49 AM #1
Anyone seen something like this in a 1-1/4" size?

I found 1-1/2",1-3/4" and larger, and even a 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 adapter size, but not straight 1-1/4".
I am getting tired of dumping coolant all over the place each time I need to drain the system for maintenance, repair or improvement to the engine.
      Thanks.

      I ended up fabricating one.
3.5" piece of 1.25" D .065" 6061 sleeved with a 1.25" piece of 2" D .325" 6061 - welded. Tapped with 3/8" NPT and screwed in a #61102 drain petcock from Rockauto with Teflon pipe joint sealer. Pretty much looks like the picture above minus the nice anodizing. Ended up spending $40 on materials and shipping with enough materials left over to make a couple more. All I had on hand was the TIG filler rods and teflon sealer.

What I sent: I really need a radiator hose drain that is 1 1/4" on both ends. There are quite a few people on VWvortex who would buy one of these for the many vintage water cooled Volkswagens out there.

      Good afternoon,

Jegs is now making one! I got mine two weeks ago. Here is a copy of my request and their answer:

Last week you submitted a request for a 1.25 x 1.25 hose drain. We are now going to offer this due to your request. The item number will be loaded tomorrow, the part number will be 555-51154 $20.99. It will be approximately 4 to 6 weeks before we have it ready to ship.

So if you have not already fabricated something it is coming soon.

      Sincerely
