Special features only available on the SS

      * white wheels
      * recaro seats
      * viscous LSD instead of the standard clutch LSD
      * lower air dam in front

About 1000 were imported to north america.
In the background you'll see an 84 50th anniversary edition - about 5000 imported.

some guy on here bought one of these for chump change a while back. I think he was planning on flipping it for a little profit or something.

      Green Saab SPGs.
They made 109 in 1991 only, and I've had two of them.
Sorry the picture is crap, but it will give you the idea.

Back when Matt Train was still here, I think we figured out that I had one of two Dodge Caravan SE turbos with manual transmissions made in 1990.
Grey market cars -- I had two BMW 745i turbos, but those weren't sold here and I don't think anyone knows for sure how many are in the US.
Nothing else really comes to mind just yet. I'm trying to think of stuff that they made less than a couple hundred of.

My second car was quite rare, a 1990 Mazda Protege GT. It only came in black, white or red and only from 1990 to 1993.
      From Wiki:
"The GT model, only sold in Canada in 1990, 1991 and 1993, came with the 1.8 BP engine also found on the 1994-97 Mazda Miata. It borrowed the interior from the GTX model, and had all factory options including a rear trunk spoiler not available in America. "
Anyway, here's a picture of mine.

Lava Orange Mazdaspeed Miata. Very uncommon 2005 only. i think actual production numbers were under 500. i've only seen on once.

This thread is making me feel pretty good about my spottings, we have a real E36 lightweight and an urban green Z4 cruising around near work regularily.

      Some odballs I've come across.
MKIV 4 dr Golf 1.8T's without A/C, we had a few of these around town when they were new, story was the local dealer bought ~10 or so and they were destined for Norway or somewhere in scandanavia. Sell-able in Minnesota.
Futura Yellow and Rave/Cosmic Green MKIV Jetta's.
Saw a Solstice GXP hardtop thing this fall, there can't be too many of those?
and we have one of these cruising around our little town.

I would have figured AC was standard on the Mk4. It was almost always standard on the Mk3 except for the base strippers (which themselves aren't very common). I'm inclined to disbelieve that story, since to conform to USA spec the cars pretty much have to start out being built for here..
The early Mk3s are also strange in their own way... no airbags, door belts, rear disc standard on all models, different style buttons and controls, and even lgiht-up vents like a Mk4!

Oh and German built Mk3s are somewhat rare... 1994 Jetta GLX and 1995 Cabrios are the only ones I know of (they also have the badges on the fender where the turn signal would be, but not to be confused with early Canadian 93s, which were Mexico built but still had the badge).

I heard there are 1200-2000. I can't seem to find an exact number. I looked it up this summer because I started seeing a yeloow one driving around town and it is gorgeous.

I just remembered a very rare spec of an extremely common car....

That in SE V6 trim with a 5-speed. I've driven two.

There was one of those in Madison a while back with a TRD blower on it. It was interesting to see a maroon camry racing an 04 GTO and being wheel to wheel with it @ 115
I have also heard that B5 V6 4motion passats with a manual a rare. (in the US, that is)

My dad had an '87 Volvo 740 Turbo-Intercooler wagon with the M46 (4-speed+ electronic OD) manual gearbox.
I still remember it, it was such an awesome car. I'd love to find another someday.
Any 740/940 Volvo with the 16v 2.3. Have only seen a handful of them.

I think that's rare for the W8 model 9standard 4motion), and even more super-rare for the W8 wagons (like under 100).
Also B5 TDis are rare (B5.5s were more common but still not as popular as Jettas).

I would have figured AC was standard on the Mk4. It was almost always standard on the Mk3. Speaking of which, there was some weird combo of options in '95 or so, so that you could buy a jetta GLS with power windows and a sunroof, but no AC!
I'm inclined to disbelieve that story though, since to conform to USA spec the cars pretty much have to start out being built for here...

I remember seeing the ad in the paper when the cars were at Burnsville VW (Mpls. suburb) IIRC they had 8-10 and were selling them at $13xxx new about $2g less than a "regular" 4dr 1.8T. A local VW shop owner bought one new and it was nicely modded up throught its life. We had another one turn turn up at the now defunct S&L Imports when I was working there.
There are more crank window MKIV Jettas than people think.
Also saw one of those mint green Z3 roadsters a couple weeks ago.

VWoAs records show something like 3 or 6 of these being sold in the US. So, yeah.

You sure its real? You can't tell just my seeing it drive by really. On bimmerforums there are tonnes of Apline e36s with the LTW flag and on LTW wheels but they aren't real ones.
Real ones are really prized cars. Only 85 where even brought to the US and a lot of them where turned into track rates or are in collections. So without actually getting up close and inspecting it it's impossible to say its the real deal. I'm not saying your lying just wanted to say all that for some reason.

It's real. I have seen it in a local shop, it sat inside for awhile in the winter. He has turned up at cars and coffee GTG's as well.
On the topic of rare BMW's saw one of these cruising down Main Street Hopkins, MN two summers ago. Yes it was real.

We have rare poop for sale around here as well! Local CL find of the century.
