It's pretty common knowledge if you search around the BMW forums. Presumably BMW wanted to limit liability so they offered them and the customer had to sign waivers during the activation process- however most did not know whatsoever that there was a separate process. They were instructed to put the red "side airbag out of operation" stickers on the doors and unhook the bags. I'll find a few examples they are just impossibly rare to come by. Here is a start though, and an image of the E46 sedan rear bag.

EDIT: As I stated the most popular model was the E39 M5, here is one example so far:

From my research, it appears some people were able to get them activated. Not sure if the dealer does it anymore, but I'd love to have one with them. I saw an obscenely rare x5 manual without premium PKG with rear side airbags. It even had manual climate control!

Has anyone ever seen a 1989-1991 Ford Thunderbird with these wheel covers?

Or these (which ran until 1992)?

It seems like 99% of these cars came with alloy wheels.

I’ve seen both, and I’d dare say the “wire wheel cover was definitely more popular than the second.

I might have actually seen the first one once or twice and just thought it was from an older model. I have no memory of the second one.

That's correct, the 500SL was never brought in by MBUSA.

They are very rare it seems, this was the only pic I could find. Probably a base model non LX which didn’t sell well

these were probably the most common wheel covers

Here's another E46 with them. A first year 1999, and there are no red stickers, so maybe that happened a little later. I still can't find any coupes/converts with them but I have seen them in the past- particularly on the M3 models.

Regardless, this is a very rare option.

The 1999-2001 e46 nav was ultra rare as well. Even more rare than the rear side airbags

1989-1990 Volvo 740 GLE 16V with the B234F engine. (The old 8V GLE became the GL for 1989.)

What's even crazier is they marinized that engine for use in boats. The marinized Volvo Penta AQ 171, a 2.3L DOHC 16 valve 4 cylinder engine. For sale for one hot minute back in the late 1980s.

There's never been another marine DOHC 4 cylinder. The last stern drive 4 cylinder went out of production a few years ago, and was a marinized version of the 2.5L Iron Duke 4 cylinder.

I have only seen one in person, as a factory mistake in a 1986 Bayliner 1950 Capri. It wasn't listed in the sales literature, but the sticker on the side of the boat where "2.1L SOHC" usually was read "2.3L DOHC".

Love the huge greenhouse on these. I was in a twin-cam 740 the first and only time I've driven next to a full-height truck on the Merritt (or was it the Hutch?) Parkway. Lots of sparks and drama when we got to the first bridge. At least one Volvo was unharmed.

I was just thinking about the 2006 Jetta 2.0T Package III model. It was not the GLI (which was also available), but it was the ultra-lux version of the Jetta which lasted only a year. I can't even find a pic right now, but they do exist and are differentiated mainly by the rear park sensors. They were ~$32k in 2006 which is $41k today! Even more rare if it had the optional navigation and rear side airbags. I have seen a pkg III with either of those options, but never one with both.

      PKG #1
      Climatronic dual-zone climate control
12-way pwr drivers seat w/3-position memory
      leather seating surfaces
real wood interior trim (including shift knob on auto or manual)
      satellite radio
*Deletes fold-flat feature for front passenger seat*

      PKG #2
      Pkg #1 contents
      17" alloy wheels
      xenon headlights
      headlight washer system

      PKG #3

      Pkg #2 contents
      12-way pwr passenger seat
      premium sound system
      rain sensor
      self-dimming rearview mirror
      Homelink
      auto headlights w/coming home feature
entry lights on bottom of side-view mirrors

When I bought my 2008 VW Passat 3.6 4motion wagon. I brought it to a dealer to get the spare key paired with the car, it would start the car but the remote functions didn't work. The service tech did a walk around the car to note any scratches or dents, before taking it to the shop. He said, "Huh, we don't see many of these!" This piqued my interest and I did a little research. 2008 was the last of the B6 Passat station wagons and the 3.6 liter VR6 with 4Motion was a rare option, one source I found said only 1500/year were imported to the US, starting in 2006, they were manufactured in Germany, instead of in the U.S. VW plant. Mine has the sport package that includes special sport seats, 1/2" lower springs and 18" Samarkand wheels, larger brakes, Dynaudio premium sound system and HID/projector headlights.

When I bought it, I was looking for a six cylinder all wheel drive wagon, I looked at a few different makes and I got this one for a good price, I wasn't looking for a special, but I got one without knowing.

How does someone obtain such a vehicle with un-orderable options? Let alone, how does someone I sure a 1/1 vehicle?

I was in a unique situation regarding this vehicle as a replacement for another. It was ordered by VWgoA, as a company vehicle, and hence certain changes where allowed.

I was able to confirm the production numbers from VWgoA directly

I'm still looking for a pkg 3 with nav and rear SRS (5 years now).

The early dsg is scary though reliability wise.

The 05.5 Jettas are pretty rare too, being half year models, and had some weird things the 06+ didn't have, I remember specifically the silver dash trim, IIRC different radios, puddle light mirrors, etc. I don't know if they had the 2.5 and 2.0T trims that year, I think so. That would make an 05.5 2.0T pretty special.

The B6 was 06-10, they were all German built (B7 12+ are American built, even the V6). But the 6 cyl is indeed uncommon (and better, since the 2.0T CCTA sucked). A co-worker at the VW dealership I used to work at bought a 3.6 non-4motion, which I think has to be uncommon too, at least here in NE!
