Thread: Need some really good advice from you guys

    1. 03-09-2010 09:05 AM #1
Is getting a payday loan going to get me into more debt? Supposedly, people go out and get them frequently to make car payments but haven't thought about venturing that way. Would a loan from http://www.paydayone.com be a good idea?

I've never done it, but this is how it usually works...
      1. You need "X" amount of dollars, let's say $300 for your car payment.
      2. You get a check for $300 from the company and you write THEM a check for the same amount, plus a fee for them being nice people.
      3. On your payday, they cash the check, so make sure you have the money in your account that day, or else they'll charge you a bounced check fee.
It will not put you in debt...just helps people who need a nominal amount of money quickly. Like I said, make sure that your paycheck is deposited immediately!

Payday loans make loan sharks look good. These people are charging 200% interest easily.
I'd rather take a cash advance from my credit card or borrow from family and give them the money. Granted no everyone is in that situation. A one time payday loan isn't the problem no matter how bad they are. It's when you consistently need a payday loan. You're living beyond your means and paying 200% interest isn't going to help.

Here's an example of how it happens -
You live at near 100% of your income. You need to get tires, but you're short until payday. You get paid every 2 weeks. You borrow $100 to do it. Next pay period, you're short now $122.50. You push a bill off, but then need to pay it off so you do it again. If you borrow $100 every other pay period, in one year, you've borrowed $1300 and paid $292.50 in fees. If you look at their rates page for 14 days, it's equivalent to 586.61% interest.
If they're doing it for a car loan, that's on top of the interest they're already paying.
If you need the help one time, it can be useful if you don't have other options. I'd only do it in an emergency though. Don't do it for a want.

      NEVER go for payday loans

You actually link to a site, but didn't look at the rates

      $250 loan 10 payments $48.05/paycheck $480.44 total 342.69% interest rate.

I've seen rates as high as 500%.

Call your mom or friend and offer them 6 payments of $50 and you'll be better off. You're better off taking cash advances from your credit card.

      Seriously, worst idea ever!
