Thread: I sold my GTI today and bought a truck

1. 09-08-2002 01:28 AM #1
Well, it was fun while it lasted (1 year) but now I have to think responsibly and eliminate some cost. Last saturday I hit another curb doing a total of 2000 dollars of damage to the driver side suspension components and chewed up a rim. After absorbing that in the wallet I decided to get something less expensive and more rugged. Now, I have no car payment, and can devote some funds to go back to school get an edumacation and then get a better job. After that I will get another toy. I took her up to 130 one last time on the way to carmax and kissed my baby goodbye. Now onward to a different kind of fun.
Mike

Mike, I’m stunned . . . you give up way too easy. Best regards and watch those curbs

Sometimes I feel as if a tiny car, especially in a cold climate, is a bad idea I am always dodging potholes, taking alternate routes, it sometimes gets tiring.

ahhhh yes. It is the key to success. There is also time for fun later, especially if you got more money in the wallet to have fun with.

Well, I hit the curb and did 2k of damage. so I paid for that outta my wallet to save my insurance premium. Then I went over to carmax and they said they would give me 13500 for it. I still had 6500 left to pay on it, so that left me with 7k. So I bought a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT with 65K miles on it. *my GTI had 30K on it, and it was only a year old* Its ruby red metalic, 5 speed, 2.3L 4 banger. Its no GTI but I went straight through a parking lot yesterday, right over the cement blocks with a huge grin on my face
Next up, putting my old alpine cd player in there, the old JL Audio 10 and my kenwood amp, perhaps the alpine 6x9 3ways I had in my Festiva. I'm lovin it folks...if I get some dings in this thing, I ain't worried about it...it'll just add character to the truck. Having a GTI WAS fun though. This is just a different kind of fun. (I've heard that some folks have wedged 5.7L v-8's in that little truck....perhaps when I have a second car (or truck)

Another curb? Is this a common thing for you? It seems like your GTI might be better off.

I heartily second that emotion, dude you need tame the driving down a bit.
Flying through the parking lot over the concrete blocks is gonna jack your truck up just as bad as the GTI.

I think what we're trying to say is: Goodbye, and for the GTi's sake, good riddance!

Trucks break to when you run them into curbs bro.....good lucj with all that comes your way with the schooling and what not.....get yourself a decent job...then shop for some more decent toys...that's my philosophy....

Eh, usually I don't reply to the "learn to drive" type comments but this time I think I will.
The first curb I hit was the lesser of 4 evils. It was either the car running me off the road, the fire hydrant, a brick building, or a curb.
The second time I chewed up a rim, was a pothole...
This time was all my fault, I was going too fast for conditions into a turn and hit a median.
And yes, I am going to degrade down to the level of saying...all of you can kiss my ass. Your a snobish, quick to judge group, and you deserve the problems that plague your cars. (my comments exclude those who DO know me on this forum)

OHHH The infamous 2.3 L four banger!!! I used to drive a Mazda 5-speed pickup with the exact same engine..... whew that car's accelerator saw LOTS of the floor Well, it got good gas mileage. Have fun getting people to honk at you for not accelerating fast enough from the stop light!

I just sold my '99 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0L V6 .... It was a pretty nice truck, I had a 4" lift and 33" tires among other goodies... but some teenage girl decided to slam into me on the highway out of nowhere and it got pretty screwed up. Oh well, VW's are better anyway Good luck with the truck.

Hey MikesVDub --
Don't let the jerkoffs get you down. Anyone who responded to your farewell post with negative comments is an ass$%^&. Good luck with the truck.
