Thread: Build thread from Spain - 1984 mk2 D now TDI in progress

    1. 02-17-2011 07:43 PM #1
Well, not so dope like other cars around here but I'll show my work in progress for springtime (I hope)

The patient is a Golf I bought around 2005 and unused since late 2006. 54cv oilburner, the damned car broke alot of things at same time while

I was studying and had no money for it.

Now are better times and I want to resurrect it. The donor was a Seat Toledo TDI 110 what make the swap pretty straight forward... Almost

plug&play ! Besides of that, I want to give it a 'modern feel' to drive because it's 2011 now, not 1984 !

Now the pics of the process.

The car sat like this at the begining, council abandonment award included:

Dismantled and towed outside by my daily for a extensive wash... A Passat 20vt

This is all the rust from the car:

A bit of matte paint in the quick side...

... And then, sound deadening application for vibrations from the engine and some audio isolation, a little PITA

      Next step the roof:

      Marking...

      Cutting...

      Testing. Perfect fitment !

After that, I got the engine bay painted and start to mount everything again... Now with donor parts:

      Wiring...

And sit like this now. I hope this weekend I'll can give it some time !

Meanwhile, the wheels finally arrived, and custom centercaps too... Not too pokey, I want to left the arches untouched and without

      overfenders !

And that's all for now... I hope you enjoy !

      Greetings from Spain

Well... It's a factory roof, and it has a gasket around to prevent leaking, it must not to be leaky !

If it leaks, I can exchange the sun in my head for a leaking when rain (here don't rain so much)

I got the roof from a junkyard, it's a Twingo roof.

      Regards

Marine Blue is the best color VW put out for the MK2. I had a blue jetta and i loved that color.

one of my best memories is riding around in a purple twingo with the roof back listening to french hip hop in the sun with the swiss alps on the horizon

so i'm jealous of the roof, and i doubt it will leak.

hehe, it's my future vision more or less... but in a golf, not in a french POS

Today the engine is in ! Step by step is closer to finish.

Well, some updates today. Front axle is near to complete and the engine is closer than ever from the 1st start... I'm only waiting some bits from UK to turn the key. Time to check the stance with the new rims !

      Look like this now:

looks great. What are the specs on the wheel/tire combo? They fit really nice.

    18. 03-06-2011 07:09 AM #17
Passenger side it's a bolt on from the donor in a mk3 subframe. The donor it's a Seat Toledo, but it's the same than mk3 or Passat AFN !

      Wheels are 8x17 With 205/40

      Cheers !

I would just like to say the rag top looks good and the engine look right at home in that bay! good luck with your build!

      Some updates...

No time to advance really, but some things came at last !

New FMIC, new pulley for AC deleting and mk1 side stripes...

It looks massive but measurements say that it's ok ! Small bumpers kill almost all OEM options, only GTD's intercooler survive but I don't like the location very much...

Hope to fit all soon and turn the key !!

      Regards.

Awesome build and love the combo of everything(rag top, tdi and the wheels). Good luck and enjoy it!!

    26. 03-15-2011 08:30 PM #25
      Thanks !!

Well... All the bits are here at last ! New vacuum tubing and some reductions for the intercooler... All silicone.

I've switched the angle grinder on and I've made some room ! Well measured IMO, hehehe

There are room enough between radiator and alternator... Plans were fit a larger radiator (that) from a Toledo with double fan, but fans touch the alternator. I need a single fan from a mk3 for example and maybe new radiator.

      That`s all for afterwork today.

      Saludos desde España !
