Yes, but it's a little unfair since it's mostly been in storage. I didn't like that it made the trim look like it had super shiny armor all on it. I would have rather had just a dull clean black. The shine has degraded though and everything is black.

I think for a driver it would be worth it.

So I finally got life in a place where I can work on the cars again. I got frustrated with a few nagging issues so I cornered the cars.

This weekend I straightened all the wires to the tail lights due to a hack job. Tried to diagnose why the fog lights won't come on but failed. I'll get my buddy to help in a few weekends. He has much more skill at that. Attempted to details the BBS wheels and the front turned out nice but the rears have the paint polished off of them by PO so it looks like they will have to get broken down for a proper fix.

So what really broke my motivation was the tilt and slide roof. Whoever designed that thing is either a genius or a total goofball. It's amazing it works. I have everything detailed but the nutserts are pulled out from the previous installation so I've ordered a tool and fasteners. Once these projects are complete I will send to a nearby detailer and I will consider this car complete. Complete means I'll drive it sparingly and hope nothing else brakes. I'm also considering bringing the car back up to original ride height. I must be getting old.

Got the Scirocco motor back from the machine shop and I'm ordering bearings today. Once that car is running she will go to the detailer as well.

Bought all new hardware (nuts and bolts) and new BBS center caps for the rims. Blew the rims apart and took them to wheel guy to powder coat the inners and the centers. Full polish on the outside lips and lock nut.

Unbolted a box full of parts from the engine bay and a few from the sunroof mechanism. Delivered those to the powder coater.

Going to have the faded red stripe on the grille repainted. I'll get the fuel lines and fan motor blasted and painted.

I'm not a big car show guy but there's one coming up the end of October and I needed a deadline to finish the little details.

Ordered a rear Votex spoiler for the hatch. I'll see how it looks if it ever shows up. From Croatia.

I paid someone to powder coat and polish and this is still a lot of work. No wonder I put it off for so long.

      Assembly begins soon.

      Shawn O - You said a mouthful.

The next to the last item to complete on this car is the Tilt and Slide. I've been messing around with this off and on for a year. I bought another toy and I've forced myself to only focus on this before I can mess with the other car. I've literally installed and removed the mech at least 10 times. I had to buy a 4MM rivet nut gun to repair some rivnuts that worked loose. It is the biggest nightmare of a mechanism. I've built motors and transmissions and this is by far more complicated than either of them. Basically I'm at the point now where everything works but I have to install the headliner and sunroof seal. Then I have to reinstall the the sunroof as a single assembly without scratching it (lots of tape). My patience went away again last night while trying to fit the head liner for the sunroof. Saturday is open so maybe I'll get it done. After that I need to figure out why the fog lights don't work and then it's time for a detail. The only other thing lacking on the car is the rear beam/brakes should probably be dropped and powder coated to bring everything up to perfection but I'll let it ride for now.

Finally finished. Wheels are redone and sunroof is installed. Plan on taking it to the detailer in a few months for a high end polish and a thick layer of protection. The sunroof could use a bit more adjustment and I have some vinyl on the door cards that's less than perfect. The rear beam and brakes needs to be removed and refinished. However at some point you just gotta call it done. I'll enjoy the car this year and toy around with the small stuff as I feel like it. A cars n coffee trip around March will be the local reveal (if anyone still cares about VWs).

Everybody likes pics. Note the added VOTEX rear spoiler.

      Thanks guys.

Question...what under dash tray should I install. Is one "cooler" than the other and why? For some reason I have 2 of them and am not sure why. TIA

All 3 cars looks terrific! Is the middle picture your VR6 swapped car? Is it Montana too? Tough to tell in the lighting.

Yes the middle car is the VR6 car. I picked it up in the forums a couple of years back. It's probably the best car of the bunch. Everything is super tight on the car with no rattles or ticks. It's a Calypso Green Golf GL. All the interior and the exterior trim has been replaced with GTI parts. I was told it was the one of the first VR6 swapped cars that Futtrell autowerks swapped back in the day. The swap looks factory. Long time CA car.

Even I do. My daughter has been working on her camera skills so I had her shoot the cars. It's motivated me to finish up a few more nagging projects on the cars.

I tackled the gauge wiring on the Montana last weekend and got that sorted. The belts on the Scirocco just never seemed right and the pulleys seemed to be in a strain. I don't think the sizes are right so I ordered a few new Continental belts and hope to get that sorted this weekend.

The Montana's year calipers and dust shields had some bubbly rust underneath the black caliper paint so I just purchased new MK4 aluminum calipers, brake line adapters, pads, and dust shields for the next project. Dust shields will take a while to get here so I need to wait to start until all the parts arrive.

The VR6 car started having a CEL pop up on the dash and turns out to be a bad fuel injector. It's going to be a chore to remove the intake manifold on the motor since it's so wedged in the car. I don't want to swap fuel injectors because I've been wanting a supercharger and that requires new fuel injectors. So I'm torn on this one. The VF engineering supercharger is $4,500. Meh, maybe Christmas.

thanks for the nice comments all!
