I think love/hate is a good description of our relationships with our cars. I don't know about you but i definitely go through moments where i want to set my car on fire and drive it off a cliff. I also go through moments where i realize how great it is to be a car enthusiast. A day like today.
I recently moved a few hours away from my home town into the Poconos. I knew there were a ton of great driving roads in the mountains and was itching to go explore. Today i had some time and decided to go for a little drive. I searched for some known routes but couldn't find anything to detailed. What started out as nothing special ended up with an incredible 2 hours drive through some gorgeous empty back roads.
My car isn't the greatest and may not have the rarest parts but none of that matters here. It does a great job at putting a smile on my face when i put my right foot down.
I started out at an entrance of some park i stumbled across. It ended up being a single lane road twisting around narrow stone walls on one side with nothing but a guardrail separating me from the Delaware river on the other. Please excuse the wheels as i just took my summer wheels off 2 days ago.
The road ended up being enveloped with the bright fall colors with some nice long straightaways.
After a tiny little "town" that ended up being no more than 4 houses i started to climb and climb.
At the very top, this is what i found.
I figured this was a good place to turn around as the sun was fading quickly. Most of the drive i had my windows open with the music shut off. The rush of the wind in my face, the feeling of the tires holding on to the asphalt as tight as they can and the roar of my exhaust echoing through the mountain roads was enough to make me the happiest person in the world. I had gas in the tank and a road to rip up.
I in no way condone speeding in any way but neither do i condone sitting in front of a computer and staring at cars all day instead of driving your own. Most of us don't have show cars and most of us aren't completely satisfied with our "mods" but that doesn't matter. Go drive your car, go enjoy it for all it is, whatever it is and have fun with it.
Stay safe out there but have some fun while your at it.
ps. Here's a picture of my butt.
