I think love/hate is a good description of our relationships with our cars. I don't know about you but i definitely go through moments where i want to set my car on fire and drive it off a cliff. I also go through moments where i realize how great it is to be a car enthusiast. A day like today.

I recently moved a few hours away from my home town into the Poconos. I knew there were a ton of great driving roads in the mountains and was itching to go explore. Today i had some time and decided to go for a little drive. I searched for some known routes but couldn't find anything to detailed. What started out as nothing special ended up with an incredible 2 hours drive through some gorgeous empty back roads.

My car isn't the greatest and may not have the rarest parts but none of that matters here. It does a great job at putting a smile on my face when i put my right foot down.

I started out at an entrance of some park i stumbled across. It ended up being a single lane road twisting around narrow stone walls on one side with nothing but a guardrail separating me from the Delaware river on the other. Please excuse the wheels as i just took my summer wheels off 2 days ago.

The road ended up being enveloped with the bright fall colors with some nice long straightaways.

After a tiny little "town" that ended up being no more than 4 houses i started to climb and climb.

At the very top, this is what i found.

I figured this was a good place to turn around as the sun was fading quickly. Most of the drive i had my windows open with the music shut off. The rush of the wind in my face, the feeling of the tires holding on to the asphalt as tight as they can and the roar of my exhaust echoing through the mountain roads was enough to make me the happiest person in the world. I had gas in the tank and a road to rip up.

I in no way condone speeding in any way but neither do i condone sitting in front of a computer and staring at cars all day instead of driving your own. Most of us don't have show cars and most of us aren't completely satisfied with our "mods" but that doesn't matter. Go drive your car, go enjoy it for all it is, whatever it is and have fun with it.

Stay safe out there but have some fun while your at it.

ps. Here's a picture of my butt.

      great sentiments.

some days you do want to kill your own car, i think we all secretly have that hint of love/hate relationship that keeps us coming back. to me there has always been no substitute for a nice exhaust, sunny day, perfect gearbox/motor, and a windy road.

What if it's mostly hate/indifference and never love? And it never puts a smile on my face. Driving it sucks.

I propose this as the TCL creed (adapted from the rifleman's creed)

      The TCLer's Creed:

This is my car. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My car is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My car, without me, is useless. Without my car, I am useless. I must drive my car true. I must drive faster than my oppnent who is trying to overtake me. I must overtake him before he overtakes me. I will...

My car and myself know that what counts in driving is not the lap times we set, the noise of our exhaust, or the smoke of our tires. We know that it is the passion for cars that counts. We will show passion for cars...

My car is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its torque band and its drag coefficient. I will keep my car clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...

Before TCL, I swear this creed. My car and myself are the defenders of the vortex. We are the masters of the road. We are the saviors of car enthusiasm.

So be it, until victory is TCL's and there is no enemy, but fuel economy!

Great post! As winter approaches I am trying to enjoy some quality time with my babies before I have to tuck them away for a winter season of maintenance repairs and for sure some aggravation and desire to reduce my little collection and not deal with owning multiples. But then a day like the OPs will come along and I will happily do what it takes to hang on another year.

Just got back from a drive in my car. Nothing better than cruising the mountains and breathing that evening air.

That feeling when you punch it on the highway and you hear BOOM. Check engine light comes and the temps starts raising rapidly. While pulling on the side million scenarios go thru your head. Pop the hood , smoke everywhere.
Wait few secs for it to clear off. Quick inspection you realize it's only a raptured hose. Sigh of relief as you walk towards the trunk. "I have the parts to fix it in the trunk" thinking to your self
Life in a day of a VW owner.
