I have heard some sweet sounding VRs but have no idea what they were running. Now that i have one it needs to sound like those did. I cant roll stock sound! Opinions on straight pipe after the cat maybe?

If you don't have to pass emissions I would take out your cat and get this:

I think i have figured out what the suitcase is. But wtf is it for can it be deleted and just run pipe from the cat? Looks like a huge useless piece of chit to me.

      1) Borla TT.
      2) Suitcase can be removed, and is a common "mod".

First off dont go buy one of those kits they are a rip off call your local exhaust shops and get prices. 2.5" straight pipe and your choice of muffler. I perfer magnaflow. i love the sound of my exhaust.

i see that you are in portland, call discount muffler on 82nd. I paid 120 for a full custom cat back but i brought my own muffler and for a good muffler you will pay around 100 to 120. Cant beat that price.

Borla is the best sounding imho, and does not resonate inside the car at all.
Most "good" sounding exhaust systems that people run will give you a headache after 15 minutes in the car.

eurosport muffler, straight pipe, no cat - sounds awesome when on the throttle, quiet but healthy sound when not and has little to no drone

Go customwith a unique sound. Aero Turbine Muffler bolted to the back of the cat then 3"

      - 1.8T with 3" cat back
      - Straight though muffler directly after the cat.
      - dual exhaust split over the rear beam.

Flipside Customs did mine. However this was a 1.8T. But you could imagine how much better it would sound with a VR6.

vr's sound sexi as hell through a borla.

i rather like my current setup. 2.5" pipe from the cat back, all mufflers deleted, 2 foot glasspack just to cut the noise down. sounds pretty sexi, just a tad on the loud side.

Regarding your magnaflow, how was it on the highway?

I just bought a 2000 Golf VR with 25K mi. I'm modding it out. I need an exhaust. Someone recommended the Magnaflow and like it. Another person said it is punishing on the highway. What do you think? Thanks in advance.

I have '98 Golf VR with a TT and I've liked it for 15 years. It's loud and has a nasty drone at 3K, but it's fairly quiet when I'm cruising on the highway.

Most VR6 exhausts will give you drone.

      I recommend Borla

I still enjoyed my 2.25" straight pipe from tge cat back with just the muffler deleted and a nice set of tips cheap and effective abd sounded great. It was a little loud at first cause of the mild resination of sound off the cleab pipes but a bit of carbon build up after a few weeks quited it down nicely

I ran a suitcase delete, a TT high flow cat and topped it off with a CAI. Loud when I want it to be, quiet when I needed it to be.
