    Thread: My Berg Cup / USF3 MK1

    1. 01-01-2013 01:10 PM #1
      AKA "The Never-ending Project"

So I finally started destruction on my track toy. A little history, I bought the car from Potterman about a year ago, figuring I would just put gas in it and take it to the track. Unfortunately I cant leave well enough alone. After locating a set of Berg flares I started my downward spiral!

The day I picked her up! Thanks Mike!

      Flares arrived from Germany!

It lived at the body shop for a while

Finally got it back from paint.

A hint of things to come

Built a set of 15x9 et0 wheels for her. They are called the USF, inspired by the USF3 cars that ran in the early 2000's - and the cars that originally used the motor that will be powering her.

Jordan helping seal them after Matte gold powdercoat

      Dog is my co-pilot

      Wheels done - looking PROPER

      working on the dash mockup

      ECU and half harness

      Motor arrived

Then I had to bring the car home so I could actually work on it. The wife didnt like me spending even MORE time at the shop. So I bought some tile for the garage and trailered it over.

Step one - out with the old. FOR SALE btw, look in the classifieds

Now to current - removed the battery tray because the racing battery will be living in the back of the car now.

Thats it for now. Headed out to the garage today to do some more damage.

still have the battery tray? I could probably bend that back straight and use it. I took mine out years ago, but now my battery goes back in the front and there's no tray there.

It's not an AEG its an aluminum ALT block. Will save me about 70lbs from the front of the car

I've looked around before and those USF3 engines seemed to be rated at ~220hp. Will yours be in that range as well?

Originally was assembled with the pistons from the Bertils motor (2008cc) but we just ordered some new JE's for it. Same size though since INA had already prepped the block for them.

Should be close to that, I'm running this one at 14:1 compression ratio which is a bit more than they originally ran but I don't have the dry-sump oil system.

Awesome, I am so glad to see Mike's old car in good hands. I have spent quite a few happy hours in it prior to it becoming a dedicated track car and it would have been a shame to see it fall into the wrong hands.

      Keep 'em comin'!

So, while us mere mortals are bench-pressing just the trans-axles, you'll be bench-pressing the whole long block. Impressive...
