Stopped in Dunkirk, NY because it is cold as heck! Wind at 30 mph off the lake.

Awesome to see you and Polo back at it! Maybe I'll see you again when you hit the west coast. Safe travels and have fun.

A friend uses the hi-top Sidi winter boots, but they're expensive.. http://www.bicycling.com/bikes-gear/...idi-diablo-gtx

These look pretty serious and half the price of the Sidi: http://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...93_-1___202362

Half the price, and similar style, but limited sizing: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes...ductId=1117548

I don't spend much time in the snow/rain/freezing but I use these fuzzy lined and waterproof covers: XL Waterproof Softshell - http://bontrager.com/model/11346
Bontrager also have these crazy looking high top waterproof commuting covers: Town Stormshell Overshoe - http://bontrager.com/model/11352 - I suspect apart from the lack of a tight fit, I'd actually enjoy these as I hate when spray or snow goes in the top of the lower shoe covers. Maybe for touring in the absolute worst wearing it would be possible to wear a pair of these over other ones underneath.

A few things to note: it was a smart idea to delay replacing my stretched chain considering the about of grime in dealing with the snow up here.
Splitting hairs between shoe purchases, when I need realistically more then one set, is tough.
Fenders just make sense, but work better in these conditions set with a wide gap.
I decided on a pair of winter hiking boots Salomon Anka CS WP and picking up a pair of Lake CX300 mountain bike shoes.

Where are all the northern winter cyclist?

No more updates? Did the ride end prematurely?

I'm still out. Yesterday we were back in PA at Oil City for a beard contest. My memory card took a crash this morning while trying to upload videos and pictures. I'm having trouble getting images loaded and linking vids. We are in Western NY still.I'm working with UPS for some money currently. It's their seasonal hiring for the holiday. Facebook, YouTube and Google+ are instant uploads and simpler. Hold on, I'm going to shoot a photo from right now.... then you will see the real fun going about. Numerous people up here seem shocked to see a guy cycling in this madness.

We were down in Ellicottville a few Sundays ago. It was 14 degrees out. The wind chill was at 8. I'm working on sewing up my own mittens from a coat.

This showing how I dry my laundry.

It is snowing and lightning now. This is nuts. I'm wearing snow boarding pants and a tee. And my fancy winter boots are full win!

Being out in temps that cold for any extended period of time is very dangerous for your little pupp. No matter if he has on a jacket his paws and nose are exposed and prone to frostbite.

So are his ears. What o do is line the crate bottom with a reusable shopping bag, then a cotton sweater, and a fleece blanket covers the surrounding areas. One side is partly open. But he is use to it all. So he borrows inside while I peddle. When I stop to let him out I remove snow or search out bare spots. He gets oil on his nose to block the wind from chapping it. But yes, it is too cold for him to enjoy oneself. I like to think we understand each other.

We have gone from snow to plain old rain. I would rather it be snow aka dry rain.

So this is crazy, all my gear and food weigh in at 20 lbs total! If I remember correctly we originally started out at darn near 65lbs.

You need to get a move on, towards warmer climate.

Or teach Polo to pull a sled.
