Got her back from the shop! OEM DCC shocks/struts, Eibach Pro Kit lowering springs, Superpro front end links. Air Lift is out (and FS).

Finally put on the 17s that have been sitting in my attic after I got a flat on the OEM tires. Went with Falken Azenis FK510. Paid $85 each a tire, not bad so far.

This is SO much better. I hate the huge OE wheels.

Added the ECS flush spacers and APR exhaust flap switch. Very pleased with these slight OEM+ changes.

What prompted you to replace the front sway end links for the superpro kit?

I needed new ones anyways. OEM wasn't that much cheaper so went the Superpro route.

I autocrossed it yesterday with the BMWCCA. We had another Golf R there, plus several Mk7 GTI's. Rain was in the forecast yesterday so I ran Dunlop ZIII's instead of my almost-slick NT01s. My last and best run, a 44.899:

And my first run, where I spun in the slalom:

Cliff, how do the Gti’s fair compared to the R’s?

Thanks! I see elk and moose everyday in the mornings in the field behind the car in that pic. Also that is a hot springs portion of the Salmon River. We pump it in to the pool and bath! If you’re ever in central Idaho hit me up and I can show you around.

The other R was 5 seconds slower than me, but that was due to a combination of rain and a driver who is fairly new to performance driving (although he was running PSC2 tires which are quite a bit grippier than my Dunlop ZIII's). The GTI's were slower than the other R. I coached one of the GTI drivers because I am kind of the resident Golf Whisperer for the club. This was the driver's very first autocross and he was driving an unmodified non-PP manual car with all season tires. The car doesn't have anywhere near the mechanical grip that mine does. Tires and suspension mods similar to mine would go a long way towards fixing that, but the R still has a better ability to put power down compared to the GTI.

The last thing you need is another person from California coming to Idaho and jacking up your property value even further...

I’m about 50 yards from the San Gabriel River!

      Love your place BTW.

Doubled the odometer reading and killed some bugs this weekend. Drove to NC from MN. Turns out I'm like ten minutes away from DAP, might swing by.

Finally got around to installing my Xuji steering wheel wrap after it sitting in a box for over a year. Install took pretty much 4 hours on the dot as others had said. Certain areas a bit more loose than I'd prefer but that's nobody's fault but mine. I'm hoping it breaks in / shrinks a tad over time but if not they included enough thread to redo it like 6 times lol. The feel and look is good otherwise.

My neck was sore the next day from slumping over in the seat doing mine.

There's a trick people use to minimize wrinkles in leather seats that might work here, see https://itstillruns.com/dryer-remove...s-4841041.html

      Worth a try.

I had Dunlop ZIII tires mounted to my new RSE11R wheels; 255/35 and 18x9et45 sizes, respectively. I'll mount them on the car and take some beauty shots this weekend after I give the car its annual full detail.

Sharp. Looks great. Is it lit at night? I like how the orange matches the light "auto" indicator. OEM-ish.

You seem to really like those ZIII's! Really nice set of wheels. I love Neuspeed, great mix of style and substance. I run 17's though. How fast do you go through those Dunlops?

Thanks! I haven’t driven it at night yet. I dont have the dim wire connected to the harness, i bypassed it. If its to bright ill hook it up. Hahaha i did noticed that with the “auto” headlight switch. Nice catch!

I couldn't wait until the weekend to do a test fit... Photos of them on a clean and shiny car taken with something more capable than an iPhone will have to wait. I took the car for a 5 mile drive and pushed the car as hard as was reasonable and detected no rubbing until I hit a couple of sharp dips at 45mph that heavily compressed the suspension and caused the fronts to rub. So I think this fitment is good. I measured the section width at 10.2" which is consistent with most other tires of this size, but which differs from TireRack's 9.7" measurement for this tire.

I got 13 HPDE days out of my last set of ZII Star Specs. The ZIII's currently on the car are wearing at a similar rate, with 30 sessions (~7.25 days) on the tires with 5/32 remaining tread down from 8/32 starting tread depth. In my experience they are fairly competent tires too, for example I came in 2nd place out of the 30 non-BMW's at last weekend's autocross.
