      This shouldn't be surprising.

The Corvette team has pretty much squeezed out all the performance/handling from the current configuration so the switch was inevitable if they wanted to keep upping the performance/handling capabilities.
Why you wouldn’t (buy an Optima SX):

Because you have your eyes on the Frigidaire Limited Edition Camry that you saw last weekend at the neighborhood Autoplex

And with your engineering degree, where woudl the engine be in relation to the driver and passenger footwells and the front wheelwells allowing for steering? There's seriously no room up there except for a tranverese FWD I4 ahead of the wheels, and even that's sketchy with a radiator in front.

No, that bodywork covers a mid-engine layout. Now whether it's for a Corvette or not is questionable, as we've seen that repeatedly since the early '60s.

Well, you have to use a bit of TCL presumption when viewing that panel behind the cab held in place with 8 fasteners.

Also "...cooling intakes located along the rocker panels...".

Maybe that's a hot tub cover and it's electric batteries up front.

They need to stop all development right now. Throw a Corvette or Cadillac badge on it and it's perfect. It would not be mistaken for anything else.

This. I loved the Ford GT. GM has a great parts bin and some talented engineers working in some departments (Camaro SS, New Vette, CTS-V) these days so a similar exercise would be a great halo car.

Let's just hope they don't have to recall it too

The proportions suggest something very similar to a Carrera GT's layout:

On one of the latest Autoline Detroit interviews with Mark Reuss, John McElroy asked him what was going on with GM trademarking Zora and a few variations of the name and Mark answered with a sly "you never know." With these pictures, it seems very plausible that a mid-engine Zora version of the Vette is coming. Pretty amazing times!

I'm thinking there will be the C8, and then the C8 Zora. I'm hoping Cadillac will be able to use the platform...

I'm still thinking/leaning towards the Zora (or whatever they name the mid engine car) and Corvette/Stingray being separate models.

This gives Cadillac a platform for a halo car as well.

Looks like Milford Proving Grounds. There's a couple of places on the west/southwest side of the property where you can park on the side of the road and get a good vantage point from public right-of-way via drone/tree climbing

as much as id like to see a true mid engined thoroughbred from america .... the 50 grand FR vette would be sorely missed if replaced by a 90+ grand mid engined car

There are a couple more pics in the C&D gallery that show giant intakes for something on the front of each wing stanchion. Also, it's tough to tell, but there may be some sort of draw-through intake for something like a radiator between the stanchions, cut out of the deck cover. That could be the reflection of the wing though, hard to tell.

Photos were taken at the GM Proving Grounds in Milford. Article itself even stated it was done with a helicopter.
