We had an '86 Trooper with the slightly more powerful 2.3-liter. It knocked the 0-60 time down to 20 seconds. It was fine most of the time, but merging into fast traffic kind of sucked and it could not maintain 70 MPH up grades on the highway, despite a running start and full throttle.
Growing up with this thing I think is why I'm so tolerant of cars that do 0-60 in 8-10 seconds. Basically if it can maintain speed up a grade without downshifting, or even accelerate, it feels fine to me.
