Hey all, my name's Adam, I figured I'd post this up here for some critiques, comments, inspiration maybe? Who knows. I picked this car basically because I could find one cheap locally and I knew there was a lot of spare parts available but now that I've been running it a few years I'm pretty impressed with it as a rally platform.
Here's the story!
In 2012 I decided to enter Rally America competition and began building a car for the 2wd class called G2. I found a $600 '98 manual 2.0 Mk3 Jetta and began tearing it apart. As I did so, the rust that all of these cars have began revealing itself to be worse than I originally thought. I was forced to find another shell so I found an automatic one with a blown head gasket and a clean shell to cage and swapped the 5sp and running engine combo into it. Almost exactly a year later in October 2013 I ran my first event with it, a Rally America regional event Perryville Farm and Forest Rally. Since I happen to work in Perryville, MO it couldn't have been a much better location for my first event.
When I first finished the car, next to my DD:
Since then I have done the (local to me) national event Rally in the 100 Acre Wood in Salem, MO twice and the regional Show Me Rally twice. In January I completed the Sno*Drift national rally in Atlanta, MI for the first time and had my best result, 3rd in class and 12th overall on the first day of the rally.
