This is going to make your downpipe hit your shift linkage unless you use the TT downpipe short shifter lever. Even then it's really close. Wish you had made it this past weekend.

Downpipe comes with the required shift lever....

"Includes revised short shift kit, O2 fitting, gaskets and hardware. ...and will connect directly to our 2" Mk1 exhaust"

And yeah, I'm sorry I missed it!!!!

The downpipe is offset and it comes with a notched shift linkage part.
Ted- if you have not ordered the downpipe, Bill Knight is selling a brand new cat version one.

I agree with Other Eric. I would remove the overlying stuff to get full access and use a high quality Vice Grip that won't slip off.

And then I'll add, admittedly because I can't stand someone else getting to it first: Lubricate well, grab the shaft firmly, and gently work it back and forth till it pops

The manifold is off a Mk2 Golf?
It's hard for me to know exactly what these things cost me. I'm guessing a LOT, but I like them, so that's that.

Yes, mk2/3 manifold. The tubular mk4 one can be used also.

How about a tri-y header if you want to make good power?

This manifold / down pipe is an interim solution until I can save enough pennies for Brian to make me a copy of his system.

I tried the vise grips, no luck.
Will try the lubrication approach next.

For the record, Techtonics Tuning's 4-2-1 aka tri-y header will clear the exhaust and the stress bar/sway bar. The 4-1 header will not.

Ok, I reread the thread. You're running a 1.7l motor. The setup you're installing is all you'll ever need.

Interestingly, when I spoke to Techtonics, they were not overly supportive of the use of their headers in a street car. They trade off a significant amount of ground clearance apparently.

It's gonna be a 1.6, with the Heron head, 80.5 bore x 77.4mm stroke based on the crank I'm using.

Manifold primed, painted and clear coated, just because I had the high temp paint.
Clean up the flanges and install it tomorrow hopefully!
