Looks like a battery exploded under the hood sometime before I bought my 83 Rabbit about 2 years ago. I'm thinking baking soda and water isn't going to do much to clean/neutralize it after this amount of time?

I'm looking for advice on 2 areas:

      1. Exterior fender. There are a few drip lines that are now white/chalky. I've cleaned the entire panel with soap and water but the drip lines are still there after it dries. What grit sand paper (or something else) should I use to try to get those drips to fade from the clear coat. This is assuming the acid has only damaged the clear coat.

      2. Engine bay. I can see parts of the paint look darker and rust is likely already there because the acid is beyond the surface/clear coat. I will likely strip the affected area, treat it and paint it. Until then, what steps should I do to keep it from getting worse? I've read where W-D40 or petroleum jelly will help stall the rust.

      Thanks.

Looks like coolant leak to me, not battery.

I didn't see your post back in September.

      Thanks.
