But man is it dead in there. Can we discuss all things airplanes in here? I have always loved planes. We went to Oshkosh nearly every year in my childhood and it really got me hooked. Recently, I have spent countless hours watching Youtube reviews of international first class cabins and it got me thinking, we should discuss planes more here in OT, as I know a few of us are pilots both professionally and for recreation.

As a child, my favorite non commercial aircraft was the F15. It was, at the time, one of the fastest jets in the US Air Force, and it always got me really excited at Oshkosh. And the Harrier. Something about vertical take offs and landings really tickled my fancy.

      What says OT?!

      In.

I'm a total aviation nerd. The time for me to get my PPL has long come and gone, but I can still read, draw, build models, and fly my RC stuff.

I hate flying. I love planes. My solution to the fear of flying has been research the hell out of planes, weather, points, and lounges. That and mix pills with alcohol.

One of my must visit sites before any flight is turbulence forecast. I'll checkup on potential rough spots and pilot reports as I get closer to departure. Helps to plan ahead how toasty I need to get before flying.

Flying premium beats economy. I checkout Flyertalk deals forum for deals and vacation planning.

Reliability is spotty but Seatguru usually gives me an idea of what plane version to expect before flying.

For tracking and gate guessing I'll use Flightaware.

      favorite plane: SR-71
      favorite fighter: F-18
      favorite private plane: Beaver

I have a cursory knowledge of planes. Dad worked at Boeing for 40 years, nephew has his PPL, his paternal grandfather has owned a few planes over the years and is/was a pilot (Cessena 421; Piper Apache Geronimo). I played flight sim back in the late 80s-early 90s.

How dare OP let the first image posted be that garbage heap of a poor excuse for an aircraft.

Great pics. Outside of the US, SU 37's are some of the sexiest aircraft.

I liked the box tail planes of the 60's and the sonic booms from the fighter jets that shook the ground and rattled the windows.
Maybe a Saturday trip down to the Air Museum in Dayton is in order.

The coolest 30 minutes I spent in the Navy was the flight I got to take in a T34 trainer. Of that, I probably had the stick for ~10 minutes. Awesome. I'll have to dig out the picture of me posing in front of it in flight suit doing my Tom Cruise impression.

In another life I would've put in to go to flight school, but I just couldn't take the ~9 year commitment to be in the service to do it.

One of our neighbors around the lake used to have a float plane, I think a little Cessna that he would take off and land right in front of us on the water. I've never really had the urge to get a plane (seems like a great way to die for a rich man) but the float plane, THAT I could get behind...

      *knock knock*

The green one with the big crowd is the final G450 pre completions phase to roll off the line before shutdown. It will be delivered next month.

Ultimately though, my favorite thing of all time with wings is the YF22 Raptor. It's just so flat and angular and sexy in ways the F35 never had a shot at being.

Our company just got a totally refitted and modernized GIV, it’s beautiful, and a great way to travel!

Last week I had the pleasure of getting a tour of a 787, stripped and customized for a Head of State. Luxury like I have never seen! I wish I could have taken pix!

Our company is in the Satcom business, I see some awesome biz jets.

I know there is at least one 787 BBJ in China. 225 million plus another 100 to build it out

Wow! I know the one I saw has been down for 2 years. The costs and labor is staggering, for something that flies a little over 1000 hours a year!

No kidding. Those were from 2009. We were in Vladivostok for a month. We were near the Amursky Bay, and they were flying out of Uglovaye. I think it was acting similarly to one of our Air National Guard bases. It was awesome seeing them, as I'd only ever seen them in photos.

My grandfather tried out for the air Force, he landed the sim perfectly. It was perfectly upside down and he didn't know it.
I tried one of those flight sims in Vegas, one full spin and I nearly ralphed.
      A loving welcome from TCL

Saw this Lancaster fire and take off at the CBAA show this summer. The sound was just fantastic.
