Someone at VWoA is trying to trade on the Rabbit name again with a trim package.

After Rabbitizing the MKV (I still have to explain to non-VW people the MKV Rabbit was a Golf), I thought we were passed this.

You mean like the Mk 1 was exactly the same, right?

If they’re going to do it they should do it right. What’s “Rabbit” about it? I know, I know, they’re not going to give it anything expensive like different bumpers or non-production headlights/body parts, but black mirror caps and matching spoiler doesn’t cut it. That’s weaksauce.

Don't forget the Rabbit stitched seats and the trimmed floormats.

What else would you suggest they do exactly?

The wheels are MUCH MUCH better than the plain GTI ones. Just a $60 dipyourcar.com wheel kit away from the color you like! That spoiler though

It's pretty much a return of the Sport trim VW had for the 2017 model year. Base model + nicer headlights.

And a Jetta Quantum Edition (Yes, I know Quantum was a different car, but it's close enough where they could pass it off).

If they really wanted a "Rabbit" edition to celebrate the Rabbit GTI, it is completely wrong. The US GTI did not have plaid seats. They had striped velour in either red or blue. Add some COLOR to the interior, VWOA! Even if it is trim pieces in something close to the original colors. No double side stripe down the body. How about bringing back a smaller version of the original GTI font badging, in the classic Mars Red? How about an OEM version of the Avus wheels that people have been repopping for close to a decade?

And how about adding some color to the range? I know the Original Rabbit GTI only came in Royal Red, Black, Cashmere White, and Diamond Silver, but that was from a time when VW offered at least SOME other colors in the rest of their line.

Yes! I love the plaid seats in the GTI. It would be cool if they added even more fun upholstery options.

It's not just the Rabbit. I remember referring to my MKV as a golf to my sister, who was VERY confused and finally admitted "I thought you had a GTI?".

Agreed. And it's not like they haven't done it justice before. Mk5 GTI was available with a "thunderbunny" kit. This I believe is a concept, but it's not far off from what you could actually buy.

They already made aftermarket 18x8.5 snowflakes. It's not like a huge corporation like VW couldn't knock some out.

Yeah, but I want either Scirocco 2 bottle caps or Mk2 GLI P-wheels.

This will be one of the cars shown at the LA Auto Show. Press days start tomorrow.

      https://newsroom.vw.com/company/hist...e-back-rabbit/

"In 2019, the Rabbit makes a return, paying homage to the dedication of countless enthusiasts and past generations while celebrating the unique heritage of the VW GTI in the U.S.

It will be available in Cornflower Blue and Urano Grey — stand-out, non-metallic colors —as well as Deep Black Metallic and Pure White. It features a LED lighting package, a new-for-GTI “Vmax” spoiler accent on the rear roofline, and road-hugging 18-inch “Pretoria” alloy wheels painted gloss black. The U.S. version of the 2019 GTI Rabbit Edition — a limited run of just 3,000 — also includes a special gift from VW (but you’ll have to buy one to find out what it is).

Bucket-style, race-inspired Top Sport driver and passenger seats inside the cabin come in heritage Clark Plaid cloth upholstery along with red tags embroidered with the VW Rabbit logo and red-trimmed floormats.

Additionally, the Rabbit Edition includes standard Driver Assistance features such as Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitor, and Autonomous Emergency Braking.1

The experience behind the wheel (and on the road) of the 2019 GTI Rabbit edition is just as exceptional: Powered by 228 hp, a VAQ mechanical torque-sensing limited slip differential helps to direct all that to the ground. And high-performance Golf R ventilated disc brakes offer plenty of smooth, well-modulated stopping power."
