Initially I thought it was U-Joints, but those checked out on both front and rear driveshafts. Then we stuck it in AWD, then in 4Hi, and then 4Lo, and the sound got absolutely horrid.
Honestly, had this car not popped up I probably would have kept it and fixed it. But once I saw a manuel E46 for a price that was laughable it was pretty easy to let it go.
I should have kept the 4Runner and just had them both, but right now I wouldn't fix it for a long time. Good news is that I sold it to a friend, and he's planning on keeping it all winter instead of flipping it. So come this spring when he's ready to get rid of it I told him to holler at me. I may buy it back then. We're expecting our second child in the end of January and my wife is planning on taking off a full eight weeks of no pay. Between that, and the cost of the birth, I'm trying to be pretty tight with money.
In reality, it was more my wife saying "You're not going to buy another car when yours is broke, are you?"
Okay, yep, I'll sell it and buy this one.
