Just picked up a used 2017 Audi A4 Quattro as my daily driver and it has start/stop. To tell you the truth, I actually like it. It will spring back to life in what seems like less than a second and I'm on my way. I though that it would be annoying, but it's been the opposite case for me.

Yes, it saves gas. How could it not? These aren't the days of carburetors where a mechanical system has to guess how much gas to use and vacuum systems regulate fuel flow, it's all controlled now.

Makes sense on my hybrid, since it has a large battery and electric motors to drive those systems while the engine is off.
Another thing is also how loud is the engine when started? most cars I've driven with start/stop is OK, but the most annoying one is GM's system on the 6.2 engine, the factory exhaust is pretty loud during start up, so you can really hear and feel when the engine is being started, worst is those AT4 with factory performance package (intake, exhaust), you constantly hear the loud exhaust being started.
The single most annoying feature ever, yes I hate it to death. I rented few cars with it, will not ever purchase a car with it. Period.
I keep my cars for a very long time, after a while I would begin to have nightmares about it failing and not re-starting my car at a stop.
My GF just got a 2019 Tiguan with it. I cannot hate it more, especially in summer. With the AC on, it will kick off for about 20 seconds at a time at stop lights and then come back on and repeat the cycle. Maybe in other circumstances it's not as bad, but I turn it off every time.
Just picked up my first car that has Start/Stop as standard. Didn't know about it as I left the dealership, and the car promptly died at the entrance/exit. It's a thrilling experience if you're not expecting it.
Not having AC (in Florida) at the stop lights is what makes me deactivate it. Maybe in Dec/Jan/Feb I'll try it on.

Isn't it actually Stop/Start, since it happens when the car is already running?
I'm not a fan, but since it gets a "free" bit of credit on the CAFE calculation, look for it to continue proliferating.
IF I were a 2 year lease kind of guy I might not mind it, but since I'm more of a 200k + mile guy, it just makes me think about the additional maintenance costs that I would see around 100-125k miles.

While im not a fan of it in my wifes Tiguan, she always leaves it on when shes driving... first thing i do is turn it off if im driving the thing.... bugs me to no end...
funny that it bugs me that much, considering my next car will be a EV, which essentially is permanently in a "start/stop" configuration

Alright well, while the engine start/stop was almost imperceptible in the 2019 A6 loaner I had a while back and thus didn't bother me at all, I recently got a 2019 BMW 330i loaner when dropping off my 128i. Great car BTW, it drove and felt great overall, but the start-stop system was definitely not subtle, and it drove me nuts so I turned it off. I guess it really does just depend on the car.

I can be stopped at a traffic light with light pressure on the brake pedal with the car stopped and it doesn't stop, press harder on the brake pedal and the engine stops. The effort on the brake pedal to get the start/stop to engage can be a bit uncomfortable. I suppose the threshold improves response time and it gets signaled to restart the engine as the brake pedal is being released before application of pressure on the gas pedal.
