So while the Supra driver, if found to be speeding, certainly has some blame, I don't believe the Honda driver is totally blameless in this situation. And how much blame the Honda driver gets depends on the amount of excess speed the Supra driver was carrying.
I hear ya, and the thought crossed my mind as well, but judging by the accident damage (if you haven't seen the live feed mentioned above, then go watch but be warned, it is graphic), the supra was in triple digits when this happened. The front end of the Honda was gone, detached, motor not visible on screen, the A pillars were no longer attached to the dash/frame rails. The supra looked like a crushed soda can, but credit to BMW/Toyota because the actual cabin was still held most of its shape aside from the passenger side which clearly went sideways into the final pole. The accident scene and debris seemed to cover a football field in area.

Maybe the Honda did pull out, but no one expects 100+ mph on a 35-45mph surface street.

true we dont know the facts 100% and it's hard not to put blame on her, but and this is a big but* if she was driving at an appropriate speed the honda could have potentially made it w/o incident and the girl in the supra could have also avoided the accident or stopped in time we just dont know. if you're hypothetically driving 2x the speed limit and someone pulls out in front of you well then no ones going to have time to react. without knowing her speed we for certain it's a tough call. looking at the mangled car i doubt it was just a 10-15mph over the speed limit type thing.

Prior DUI and gun possession. Others stated she was going triple digits. Sigh...what a waste of life and a perfectly good Supra.

Yeah this. Regardless of the details you don't get that kind of damage without triple digit (or close to) speeds going on.

Word on the 86 and Supra forums is it wasn't even her car. While the owner (her friend) was in the restroom she and passenger took the keys for a joy ride. She was behind the wheel speeding and lost control.

Raise the money for that kid she left behind, not her estate. So stupid. At least she didn't kill anyone outside her car.

Did the real owner of the car find her on some dating site?

Well. It’s doubly funded now. Hoping the leftover proceeds do in fact go into some kind of trust for her son. Maybe even some bonds, SOMETHING that he can use down the road to improve his situation. Growing up with a single mom is tough. Growing up with no parents... I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

I was gonna post a screenshot of someone’s savage post-donation comment, but I don’t really have the heart to now. Feel free to look for ‘Michael Gray’ on the gofundme link tho, since some of you seem to share the same basic sentiment.

lol, from all the chatter on the web it seems like she was friends with the owner. I wonder what if anything will happen to him or her legal wise. Will the people in the Honda have the right to go after his insurance?

Wow, that reporter is difficult to listen to. Her “serious news” voice is awful.

I saw on a Supra Facebook group that the people in the Accord have hired Rodriguez Law Firm, PLLC. Looks like they are going after both the Supra owner and as well as the driver's insurance, assuming she had any.

In addition, Vasquez was charged with driving 79 miles per hour in a 40-miles-per hour zone on April 16, and with driving 86 miles per hour in a 55-miles-per-hour zone on April 27. The April incidents happened in Montgomery County, according to court records.

That sucks, I get people want someone to pay for this (and the driver did with her life) but from what it sounds like the owner shouldn't have any responsibility in this. did the owner even say the driver took the car without their knowledge?

Pretty much standard operating procedure when a car accident goes to litigation. You name any party that might have SOME potential liability, especially ones that might have deeper pockets.

I said it in the neurosurgeon thread, but using a motorized vehicle is one of easiest ways to commit a crime and suffer minimal repercussions in North America. We just don't take it seriously.

Yeah, but that's what insurance is for. I have no idea on how she got the keys. The two most common thing that are floating on the net.

      1. Stole it as rumors on the net are saying.
      2. While her "friend" was in the restroom she took the keys for a joy ride.
