I would much, much rather have the 86 with a 6 speed and a turbo 4 pot over this.

$12k for a manual swap? I'd rather just buy something else entirely. The current supra just isn't that compelling.

If/when Toyota sees a significant number of people willing to drop $12k on a 6MT, that increases the chances of a factory 6MT offering.

Saw this a few weeks ago on an FB post, if I lived near that shop buying a Supra would be more attractive. Shipping it to them and waiting from another state would probably suck.

I have always wanted to have the money to spend on making a car slower.

I couldn’t care less about the track or how much slower it is with a manual. For me personally the automatic, no matter how much faster, simply doesn’t interest me. I’d rather have a smooth less powerful engine with well matched gearing and a third pedal than a faster automatic. It may or may not be worth it for Toyota to eventually come out with a manual (that’s just buzz from Toyota at this point), but I don’t care. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Really? Race car drivers prefer the automatic because it's faster. Which race car drivers are you hanging out with?

oh I agree. It just seems to be a common theme when it comes this car.

Exactly what Porsche costs as little as a Supra while having the same performance and features? From what I can tell you need to pony up around $75k on a Cayman to approach the performance and features of the Supra. So even $56k + $12k puts you at $68k in the Supra. Not unreasonable when you look at it that way.

Only when RACING. Lewis Hamilton (arguably the greatest F1 driver since Schumacher) famously prefers manual transmissions on cars he drives on the street.

I'm keeping hold of my 1M because of the stick. That said, if I had to pick a new car on sale today, I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything with an auto. It really depends on the car and how special it is. I definitely wouldn't downgrade my choice simply because it had to have a stick.

I mean, I'd rock this, sure. At it's price range, it's a pretty appealing choice. I'd take this over a M2 or a Cayman at the moment.

Does he? It seems every almost street car I see him in is auto. And the manual ones he does have he doesn’t like.

Ah the classic manual debate once more. People ask me this question all the time since I have both. I find manuals much more fun in slower cars (<300 hp). In very fast cars, particularly AWD ones, the DCT/8 speed boxes are more fun to me. The only car I have that breaks this rule: my GT3.....but the gears are VERY long, there isn't that much torque, and I freakin love the manual box in that car.

If someone is really set on a manual Supra and doesn't want to wait to see if one is offered from factory it doesn't seem like the worst idea as long as the manual setup is good. I've considered doing one in my car. Might do it down the road if I keep it long term.

These guys are clickbait 1-0-1. "Things I HATE about my new XXXXX" and "We took it to the track and DESTROYED it" bull ****.

      Will not watch, thanks.

New interview starts at 15:35. We may see a MT Supra down the road. The car will get yearly upgrades, and not related, but a new team is working on a second gen 86.
