Wonder if there will be a gap with the Outback or if they'll both be new for '20.

Traditionally in North America they are on the same schedule, but we shall see.

Was behind a current brand new one last night, really always liked these and was enjoying the nice and classy led taillights. Really interested to see this.

Exactly. Perhaps the Outback will be unveiled in New York...

The 4spd auto was garbage but I rather like the 5spd behind my 3.0R.

It uses same bellhousing bolt pattern as the EJ25, so a STi transmission can actually be bolted on, if you find a non eyesight model it may be possible to to make it work without having a christmas tree on the dash.

Is Subaru's lineup exclusively CVT (with the occasional manual) now?

I believe so. Manuals available in WRX/STI/BRZ, CVTs elsewhere. Honestly, it's fine. CVT in the WRX is less than ideal, but for other models it doesn't really matter. They seem reliable enough.

Looks like Tesla/Volvo's interior design might be replacing the stuck on tablet trend, between this and the Ram.

You can get a manual in base model Impreza's (standard, Sport and Crosstrek).

I believe you, you are obviously an expert at all things automotive now that you’ve retired from racing.

Not so sure about that--Subaru extend the warranty on the CVT to 10years/100K miles for many cars, including my 2017 Outback. I don't know what the potential issue is, but they wouldn't extend the warranty for no reason.

There were issues on base engine equipped cars with the CVT burning up. The HD version backing H6 and turbo cars seems to be holding up fairly well though.

What do you call all those buttons below and to the sides of the touch screen? Biscuits?

Below looks like more of the touchscreen. Buttons to the side look like heated/ventilated seat controls. EDIT: or maybe the other way around:
