      2010 VW Passat Wagon
      02-16-2019 08:09 PM #1
Just another update on the 2010 VW Passat Wagon, Finally bought and installed the MIB2 on my wagon. Obtained from EurozoneTuning.com, Bill has been very helpful in making sure everything was delivered on time and answered all my questions. Thanks also to nycdub2 for helping me out when I when crazy in trying to code this thing to work with RVC and OPS. I did buy a new RVC from Amazon with dynamic lines for 40$ looks good. However, the lines moving with the steering is not accurate at all, looks cool for being a cheap lowline camera but the lines throws it all off. I may switch to one with just distance lines. OPS I kept my old sensors that I used for the RNS 510 just updated the module to a 1K8 version for only rear Sensors as that is all I retrofitted. Took a hot minute to properly code without failing when in reverse.

The actual MIB2 is day and night compared to the RNS 510, loads super fast, has Apple Carplay and responds to voice by just holding the voice button on steering for longer. If you just press and release the voice button then the MIB2 voice takes over. Navigation is displayed in dash as well as radio information. Very smooth touchscreen scrolling and navigating through it. I like that the radio or streaming page when not on Carplay shows weather in top corner and street that your on. Other than coding everything was plug and play except some quick wire swapping for the Mic and RVC input. Anyway I have attached some pics of MIB2 and the older RNS 510.

Trying to do the same thing in my 2015 Jetta. Very nice. Do you have the data off the EEPROM (dump I think it's called) by chance. A guy that was helping me broke the EEPROM chip doing work on it for me. Could really use those files to finish my retrofit.

Or do you know where I could get them?

      Thanks

He doesn’t have the eeprom dump. I do but the files won’t help much unless you have deciphered a way to replace the VIN that is embedded in it as the VIN broken up in three and is passed over CANBUS separately. All other info is kept on the eMMC 16gb flash memory.

Really...so if I understand what you're telling me is that what I was about to do with my retrofit project was never going to work in the first place?

I was hoping I got the right information finally when I was told to remove eeprom chip, attach to as patch of some kind, and place on motherboard of radio and all work just fine.

      Is that not correct?

You are referring to the hardware patch which involves the eeprom being desoldered from the main board and being soldered to the hardware patch then wire soldered to main board. This hardware patch resets the cp timer that starts when powered on but not powered to the car which the unit was VIN tied to.

But to alter the eeprom & flash memory is a whole another thing and is being worked on.

That sounds about right from what I remember from a conversation I had with someone about the retrofit. So (sorry for the questions) if this patch is installed correctly and resets the cp timer so security never kicks in it should work? So what happens if all this is done correctly but the vin is not changed in rom files (aka remain old vin number)?

      Does cp kick in anyway?

Guy I was talking to about this patch said he’s done it on plenty of retrofits previously and on his right now. Explained it exactly how I was going to do it until my solder guy shot my project to hell.

VIN never gets changed, it remains the same as the car it was originally tied to. Hence the reason for the patch to reset the timer.

The info on the eeprom is not files but hex code(.bin file).

Ok. So it sounds like this patch will work then. That's good to know so my big question is if I get a blank EEPROM chip and put it back where the original one was on main board, what will that do?... By that I'm wondering if say I put black one back on motherboard and power on unit for 2-3 seconds (outside of car) will it just have original info on there and i can continue with patch as I was going to, or will it do anything at all, or if I just put the .bin on there that you have and proceed with patch.

Also what would happen if an eeprom chip from the non-navigation (200 model) unit was used to replace...would that work or no

You can’t use the bin file I have as the info is different like VIN and other info.

A new eeprom will not have any info at all so no go there, it’s like a computer with a new cpu with no bios.

If you can’t get that eeprom working, you just have a parts unit.

This part gets a little complicated. If the unit you have has all features activated and no cp before hardware patch, then your good. If all the above but cp active, then someone who knows what they are doing and has online access to ODIS Service & VW FAZIT can help you with that(can’t explain this part due to forum rules).

If your car came from factory with the head unit, then you can pay to activate what features you want at the dealership who has to hook up with FAZIT thru ODIS Service.

Believe me you don't have to explain ODIS. I've done enough digging down this rabbit hole that I've come across the manual for it and read the damn thing (and saw step by step video of how to do it), so no apologies needef on that end. This is a complete retrofit attempt (trying to get it right the first and only time). That's pretty much what I have found too, and was wondering about the process of...
      1. Remove patch
      2. Use one of the CarPlay/Android Auto USB dongles to make them work
      3. Put patch back on motherboard

Something tells me it can't be as simple as that though. I'm sure there's something I don't know about the dongles and how they work or something that's gonna complicate my thought process. My head hurts enough already.

It really is that simple but a lot of people either don’t have the patience, soldering skill, knowledge, tools, and or time.

I have done this retrofit twice already on two different cars with all working with some help from a friend.

      Ok. That's solid reassurance.

Was I also actually correct with activating carplay Android auto and mirror link with one of the many dongles you can purchase on eBay?

Hey man. Just wanted to see your thoughts on that dongle Link and if you think it would work.
I came across something that said if you remove the patch from radio all features everything (CP and features) need activated again...true or not?
