Yeah, the only reason this wouldn't succeed on the market is if the company runs out of cash before it comes out. Something solidly in the Q5/GLC/X3 segment is going to be a great seller, even if the profile is slightly GLC Coupe / X4.

Their only challenge will probably be convincing potential 3 buyers who actually want a Y not to wait.

Funny because you just know it's true; there's going to be thousands of negative reactions on why this unveil means Tesla will go under soon.

After seeing tons of 3's on the road, it really bothers me they didn't make it a hatch like the S.

If they can get these things rolling before the Audi/BMW/MC BEV juggernaut gets here they will be well ahead of the curve.

The important thing in my mind is can the build the Model Y on the Model 3 production line? If Model 3 sales drop but they have to build a new production line for the Model Y, then it seems like they will be wasting both time and money.

Yeah, I think it gives them more room/metal to play with the greenhouse while still keeping a decent Cd. Looks notbadobama.jpg from the covered car. My WAG is $5k more across the board than the model 3 with similar specs. maybe some superficial extra standard features to get you to pony up. Maybe instead of a MYP they'll do a "trailshock" version that has decent off road chops, skid plates, aggressive lookin' ATs, etc. (probably not).

No idea, but with them sharing so much componentry, I don’t see why not. They’d be short-sighted not to plan out that possibility.

Articles from a week ago stated they still hadn't decided where the Model Y would be built. It's possible they'll say in tonight's announcement but I have no idea. I don't think the announcement is about the production, it's about the Model Y itself.

Given the X, was there any doubt it would have something other than this shape?

My mind is able to fill in what I can't see in the covered image with a somewhat cool, Mazda-like shape, but I'm pretty conviced it's going to be a hideous spawn of Model X and 3. The Model X is one of the lease attractive cars on the road.
