1993 MK3 Golf CL Dutch Import 1998 MK3 Golf GL
      03-15-2019 11:01 AM #1
I have always wanted to bring over a European spec MK3,in a specification not offered in the U.S.I started checking other sites across the Atlantic, just screwing around with the idea of actually doing this...I stumbled upon a MK3 Golf that seemed too good to be true, a genuine example, in Dutch spec, with all German documentation, and it was Windsor BLUE!It's a base model CL, with no options besides a roof. The example has covered 8066 Kilometers since new, and was being sold from a private collection.I have a acquaintance named Edward Sheets. If you don't know him, well, he started NewGermanPerformance years ago, and has since become a RI.I contacted him with the intent to buy this MK3,even though in the back of my mind, it was still just a fantasy...Well it wasn't!A few phone calls later, a wire transfer, and some shipping confirmations, and the car was on it's way to the U.S. to become mine! It's not exactly cheap to do this,so the MK3 I was going to go thru this trouble to import had to be my ideal spec.It had to be a 3 door MK3, Golf,in a base level trim with no power windows,ac,none of that stuff...And it had to be a museum quality car, something with super low miles, original paint, unmarked interior, etc...you get the point. When I saw this MK3, I knew I had to have it!This thread will follow the progress of this amazing MK3.This first pic was from the original advertisement.

      12/05/2018 Car purchased.

      12/18/2018 Delivered to the port.
These next two pictures are from the shipping company when they dropped my car off at the port...

During the shipping process,I was able to track the car as it went across the Atlantic...At this point, I became obsessed with it's location as it approached the U.S.!!!
      Vessel NAME VOYAGE HOEGH TRAPPER-15
Port of departure BEANR-Antwerpen ETD 22-Dec-2018
Port of arrival USJAX-Jacksonville ETA 09-Jan-2019

01/23/2019 The MK3 is clear of agricultural inspection, and free to leave the port! Here is Ed taking it to mainland!

01/23/2019-02/12/2019 The MK3 is serviced! So far we installed some KW Variant 1 coilovers,Autotech Clubsport control arms with R32 rear bushings, poly front,K&N air filter, and a Jetex stainless catback exhaust...I also had all fluids replaced, and alignment, as I wanted everything new since the car has never really been used.Future plans is to fit a entire NOS ABT tuning body kit, including lip, skirts, mirror's,and hatch spoiler.I am also looking for some Autostrada Modena's,and Euro Blue Flag Recaro's...Lots of good stuff happening soon!

05/30/2019-06/03/2019 Full detail and ceramic coat.

      Very nice score!

So this car has no antenna? Being from austria, this version is common to me, but I never noticed the missing antenna...

In keeping with my 90's theme build here, I sourced a NOS Autotech sport tuning rear tie bar.I can't believe how hard it was to find this piece, as I bought new ones back in the late 90's off the shelves at Evolution Sports.Anyways, I decided to polish it up a bit, came out great.

      And finished product...Ready for install.

I had a CL in Canada, was my second new car and I couldn't afford AC back then, it was totally stock including no roof. I loved that car.

I guess you didn't buy it to preserve it as some of your installed options I'd not do. Each unto his own. Enjoy it!

I did not buy it to keep it bone stock.Lots of OEM plus touches will be done, including coils, exhaust, wheels, control arms, etc but nothing that can't be reversed...I have every oem part including every nut and bolt that has been swapped out.I did not buy this mk3 to park and not play with her, but she will stay mint.

My guess is it’s the lowest mileage street going mk3. Anything lower is in private collection never to be driven or is in a museum
