I know this is about a video game and there is a video game forum, but the big picture is about wanting to ban entertainment because "addictive and unhealthy" (I wonder how he feels about the royal family since some get addicted to media about them?).
This could just as easily be about Apex Legends or whatever game replaces it in twitch popularity.. or even just Magic the Gathering or Hearthstone (any addictive big game with an online social presence).
--The Prince is a bit late the Fortnite game--

      https://variety.com/2019/gaming/news...an-1203180583/

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, is calling for the ban of popular battle royale game “Fortnite,” according to The Daily Express.

The prominent member of the British royal family visited a YMCA in West London and spoke to mental health experts about addictive games and social media, saying that the latter is more addictive than drugs or alcohol.

Prince Harry specifically called out Epic Games’ “Fortnite,” saying, “The game shouldn’t be allowed.”

“It’s created to addict,” he said. “An addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible.”

“Fortnite” was recently the target of a lawsuit for its loot boxes, which some have accused of being predatory and addictive in the past. And, “gaming disorder” is anticipated to pass as an addition to the International Classification of Diseases at next month’s World Health Assembly.

Prince Harry urges parents to take action and have their children interact more with the outside world, while also acknowledging that many parents don’t know how to solve the dilemma.

“Parents have got their hands up – they don’t know what to do about it,” he said. “It’s like waiting for the damage to be done.”

The Duke also emphasized the dangers of reliance on social media to form connections.

“It’s more dangerous because it’s normalized and there are no restrictions to it,” Prince Harry said, referring to social media. “We are in a mind-altering time.”

“Without that human connection, when you do have a problem you have nowhere to go,” he continued. “The only place you might go is online and you will probably end up getting bullied.”

The call just weeks after an Oxford researcher warned that a stronger reaction to fears of gaming addiction was coming.

This coming from a country who wants to ban knives.

Prince Hairy should stick to waving at the crowd when he's in a parade and stfu.

Better yet, they should ban these Royal Idiots to speak in public.

Prince Harry should go F himself. He needs to worry about the massive immigration problem causing violence and sexual assault in his country.

I enjoyed Minecraft, even after it lost popularity. I only stopped when my 'uge, 90% completed rail project got corrupted after an update.

Fortnite seems like something I might enjoy. Should I start playing Fortnite?

i haven't really played Fortnite, just a few rounds to see what all the fuss is about. It's not my cup of tea. Watched my nephews playing it this weekend, they are 9 and 11. It went something like this:
Join match, wait for matchmaking, get dumped into run around and act like a fool mode for 45 seconds, game starts, jump out of bus, land somewhere on the map, run around smacking things with hammer looking for "a good gun", enemy player immediately kills them, repeat. This went on for about 10 rounds as i finally completely lost interest. Even when they had a "good gun" they were incapable of killing anyone. I think they play it just because their friends do, they are pretty terrible at this kind of game.
      signatures are annoying, right?

For Fortnite in specific: I have one solo victory in Fortnite, from I don't even know how long ago. March 2018 or something? Once the game got really popular it drew all the tryhard pro players and stopped being fun to me. I used to run around in squads with my friends but stopped playing by May 2018 because it was just too hard at that point. That's with playing on Xbox in fact, and of course all the best players are on PC. Very cool game, but it was only really fun when we could have a 3 hour session and get 1 or 2 victories. Playing 3 hours a night for a week solid and never getting higher than 3rd place just isn't fun to me. I'm honestly puzzled the game has had such staying power among the general public.

For the larger issue: it's absurd to think that banning Fortnite would do anything. There's a whole host of Battle Royale games out there. It's not even like Fortnite was the first. H1Z1 and Player Unknown Battlegrounds were both huge even before Fortnite came out, Realm Royale attracted a lot of attention and players for a bit too, and since the BR genre took off, there's been a BR game mode for Battlefield, Call of Duty, and tons of mobile games. Basically whatever type of gaming is popular is always going to attract a ton of players.

We're living in an era where TV is on the decline among young people, but there's still the same number of hours of free time. So instead of another generation of BBC zombies just sitting at home listening to government propaganda for 3-4 hours a night, they are playing video games instead. Video games will always be superior to any form of TV/video because video games are interactive. Regardless if it's single or multiplayer, a video game gets you involved in a way that 1-way media like TV and movies can't.

Don't ban Fortnite. Ban crappy parents who let their little ****s play 6+ hours a day so that they become useless ****tards who do poorly at school.

The reality is that it isn't just kids. Yes, adults should have self control when it comes to these kind of things but the pay to win/loot box mechanic that a lot of multiplayer games are now using prays on the same emotions as gambling. If the gambling laws are set up so Mick can only play blackjack at a casino, video games shouldn't be able to circumvent those laws and be able to push it in people's homes.

I kept my sons on a fairly short leash when it came to gaming.
      After a couple hours.....

Me: "Finish that game up or turn it off by 11:00...either or!"
      Them: "Ok!"

One time it was past 11:00 & they were still playing, so I walked over & unplugged the wifi router.

      Them: "NOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Me: "Oh, were you having a good game? Sorry about that..... next time I'll just change the wifi password & not tell you"

      Problem solved.

I remember way back in BF2 hearing people in game chat pleading for another gamer to quit the game and go to work because they would lose their house.

You may as well dabble in it. Perhaps you'll like it. Just don't go wasting your money on getting cosmetic garbage in its micro-transactions. Total waste.

I honestly don't mind Fortnite as far as the game goes. definitely not my thing, in fact I hate playing it, but whatever, people can like what they so please.
My main issue with it is actually the fanbase, specifically young children. Its pretty infuriating to see a bunch of kids glued to their screens (Ironic considering my relationship with this forum) basically only playing this game day in day out. It's literally all they do.

Because these kids are playing this game, they are also socializing with some much older people and picking up on a lot of words, phrases, and even eventually learn to act "more mature", which usually just ends in them shouting profanities at you and acting tough, leading to misbehaving in the real world, disobeying parents, etc. I've seen it countless times. Its not the gameplay aspect that I think is bad. Let them shoot fake guns, I don't give a ****. Its the people who have a platform to speak whatever they want, be it racist, rude, profane, whatever, thats being transferred to the kids. I hate it. If you've ever played Call of Duty during the golden years, you'll know what I mean. Those public lobbies were of sh*t show of slurring, shouting and whatever. Its where boys became men.

Childhood innocence is shifting from being blissfully unaware of the real world to have a completely distorted view of the real world.

What really is happening is Harry is playing Fortnite and getting his ass-kicked. He gets all pissed and ginger-rages "Do you know who I am?" and tired of the kids saying, "yeah, some lazy-ass Harry Potter who can't c**k f**k Hermionie in her p***y vajayjay."
