Fire breaks out at George Foreman's multi-million dollar Texas mansion and destroys at least 40 of his classic cars

This and the collapse of the roof and fire at the warehouse that stored historic Porsches last week.....has not been a good month for car collectors.

The boxing Hall Of Famer is known to have an extensive classic car collection numbering 50 plus, with Ferraris - including a Ferrari F40 worth around $560,000 - Corvettes and a Rolls-Royce.
Is that seriously all an F40 is going for these days? I know they made a whole lot of them, but I could have sworn they were worth more than that.

As for the fire: automatic sprinklers should be mandatory for anyone that has a car collection. It won't help with an explosion of course, but could make all the difference in a fire.

I wouldn't trust DM's value for cars, they suck at them, and half the time get the make and model wrong...

That being said, at what point are you considered to have a car collection? 1 car, 3 cars, 5 cars?

dang. I know the grills were popular but holy shiat, $300 million net worth. His boxing career definitely wasn't the source of that. Too bad for the cars, though. I like how he admitted in the article that he really didn't know how many he had because he hid some from his wife...... Smart move apparently.

Well it's going to be something different to everyone, but I'm totally fine with 1 car being the start of a collection, but rather I would say that the definition of collection would be when you own a car that simply cannot be replaced by buying a new one. Like if you have a stock 1996 GTI, maybe it's really valuable to you, but if it burned to the ground, you can always find another '96 GTI somewhere for not much money. A very rare car though which would cost a fortune to acquire another one? Yeah - that's the point where you should be thinking seriously about protecting it. Maybe even keep it at an all-steel storage facility with commercial fire detection and sprinklers rather than in a lumber & drywall home garage.

We still use our George Foreman grill sometimes.

I'm not even sure if they still sell them.

No. 1mil is the floor for almost every single F40.

I would think that with a collection this large and they amount of money he has, fire suppression and sprinklers would be a no brainer. Sucks to see cars like these lost to fire.

Although when I sold for ADT years ago, I was always amazed at what people would spend or not spend money on, especially business owners. I would run into guys losing 1000 a month to internal shrink but wouldnt spend 50 to 100 bucks a month on security or cameras. I would have guys that based on square footage would have to integrate sprinklers and they would fight tooth and nail.

I had looked at quite a few pictures online and all of them showed the fire well away from the rose window. This pic means it's pretty much toast, too. It's just horrible. Even if they somehow saved the structure up there the heat would blow out all of the glass.

Currently no more spire, roof, interior, and it's burning in one of the bell towers. If one of the bells drops, it will break through to the floor, those things are massive.
