Looking towards potentially buying my first Ducati. Looking at the Monster 797 and Monster 821. Both are in the price range, both look to have decent riding position for riding around my state and not hating life after 20 minutes and I am dead set on new (I don't really like buying used motorcycles).
Anyone own one of these? I rode a monster 1100 evo (I believe a 2011 or 2012?) back when they were new, and a Diavel carbon (cousin owned both bikes) that 1100 evo seemed to be very picky about what RPMs it would cruise at and I did not like that. I am hopeful these new bikes don't behave like that?
Bikes I have owned since riding (been riding 12 years)

Just an update incase anyone reads this later on...I went and looked at the 797 and 821 yesterday. I took the 821 out on a demo ride, ended up signing the papers and will be picking it up Saturday. Purchase was made about 210 miles away so I will get some good ride time on the way home with it, I can't wait!

      Congrats.

I have an 03 800. Haven't ridden any of the new ones.

What made you choose the the 821 over the 797?

      Nice, got any pics?

The power is what swayed me more than anything. After taking the 821 out and riding it in touring mode (tame throttle but full power) I felt like the 821 was a good start for me, I wasn't bored but certainly wasn't looking for less power either. I am sure riding each one at full tilt they both would have been great, but before I even hit the highway I had already fallen in love with the 821 and being a new bike I didn't want to beat on it at all as it only had 3 miles on it.

No pics online. It's matte silver with black frame. I'm running Termi pipes with Ducati Performance ECU and open airbox. It's a fun ride. Every year I look at all the new bikes and think about buying something else but I just keep coming back to my Monster. It really fits the riding I do.

      You planning any mods?

      Nice,
For right now I don't have any real mods planned. First thing for me is going to be updating my gear, maybe some sort of tail tidy. Once I get some miles and experience on it I may look at adding the quick shifter. Basically just plan to ride it, I am sure after I get some miles under my belt the list will begin to grow

I just purchased a 2019 Hypermotard 950SP and this thing is a blast. I came from a KTM 690SMC so handling and weight were my targets without massive hp numbers.

I rode both and went with the 821, easiest choice I ever made. The 797 was had less power than the 696 I was trading in.

i just noticed you had a Ducati listed under your name so i came over here to see if you had posted about it.

Very cool bike! how are you enjoying it now that you have some miles? I've always like the hypermotards, but they're a bit tall for me (i'm only 5'7"ish)

I've had a Monster 796 for the last couple years and it's been a good bike. the only complaint i have about it is the soft brakes. they work fine, but the lever and pedal are just mush.

It's heavier than the KTM than I came off of obviously which took some getting used to at first, but the power makes up for it. The features and tech on the Ducati are top-notch though compared to the spartan KTM which is pretty much a big-bore race with lights on it. Also, I bought the Ducati during a promotional period where all scheduled maintenance is covered for 5yrs regardless of mileage, and this includes the desmo valve adjustment as well... not bad.

I just picked one up. My first Ducati. It sits in between 5 Triumphs at the moment.

      This is my 2013 SP.
About to hit 44K trouble free miles.
It's been a blast. It eats tires. I am on my 12th rear and 9th front based on normal usage. I lost a rear early due to a puncture.

996 and previously ST2. Loved them both, but after a long love affair the 996 is on the auction block.
